At least two Seattle police officers are under investigation after reportedly attending the violent protest in Washington, DC, this week, authorities said. <\/p>\n

The officers have been placed on administrative leave as the Seattle Police Department\u2019s Office of Police Accountability investigates if they did indeed attend the riots on Wednesday, Police Chief Adrian Diaz said Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Department fully supports all lawful expressions of First Amendment freedom of speech, but the violent mob and events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol were unlawful and resulted in the death of another police officer,\u201d Diaz said in a statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf any SPD officers were directly involved in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, I will immedia<\/a>tely terminate them,\u201d the police chief added. <\/p>\n

Police have not released the identities of the officers. <\/p>\n

Andrew Myerberg, OPA\u2019s civilian director, told The Seattle Times<\/a> a photo circulating on social media app<\/a>ears to show the two officers at the pro-Trump riots. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe they were there, but we don\u2019t know all the facts yet, so that\u2019s why we\u2019re doing the investigation,\u201d Myerberg told the outlet. <\/p>\n

Myerberg added his office will investigate what the officers\u2019 intentions were that day, and if any other officers attended the riots. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe fundamental question will be, \u2018Is being present at the rally in and of itself a violation of department policy?’\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I just don\u2019t know that yet. I think it really depends on what they did and what their role was in those events.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement comes as federal law enforcement has arrested more than 80 people<\/a> in connection with the violent mob that vandalized Capitol Hill on Wednesday.\n <\/div>\n
