But that \u201cpro-Trump chaos\u201d came after \u201cmonths of the media and Democrats excusing and often \u00adencouraging the rioting, looting, arson and vandalism\u201d last year by \u201cDemocratic voters, the Black Lives Matter crowd and Antifa.\u201d Then, \u201cterrified people\u201d were told \u201cthe protests were \u2018mostly peaceful,\u2019 even as they watched their communities\u201d terrorized. \u201cRioting isn\u2019t a good look for the US This would be easier to explain if the media had believed it in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Libertarian_No_Antifa_Didnt_Storm_the_Capitol\"><\/span>Libertarian: No, Antifa Didn\u2019t Storm the Capitol<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>After last week\u2019s \u201cmob assault on the US Capitol, some conservatives\u201d tried to \u201cshift blame from the dozens of pro-Trump protesters who stormed the building to a fictitious Antifa boogeyman,\u201d reports <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2021\/01\/07\/antifa-violence-trump-capitol-riot\/\">Reason\u2019s Robby Soave<\/a>. But the attack didn\u2019t carry the hard-left group\u2019s signature tactics: \u201cThey dress in black and conceal their faces with masks and hoods\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019t aim to get caught.\u201d They will \u201cquickly smash windows and set fires\u201d before blending back into the crowd. The Capitol rioters, \u201cby contrast, were captured in numerous photos and videos\u201d with \u201ceasily identifiable\u201d faces. The violence was \u201coverwhelmingly and provably committed by the president\u2019s most fervent supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Iconoclast_Trump_Is_Still_Not_a_Tyrant\"><\/span>Iconoclast: Trump Is Still Not a Tyrant<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While members of both parties insist that President Trump has once and for all proved himself a tyrant, it was exhaustion, \u201crather than ambition, that led this supposed totalitarian to give half-hearted encouragement to a mob that attempted to halt the ratification of last year\u2019s election results,\u201d counters <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theweek.com\/articles\/959408\/decline-fall-donald-trump\">The Week\u2019s Matthew Walther<\/a>. At some point in the last year, Trump lost \u201cthe will to govern,\u201d and \u201chis rule devolved into a fantastical senescence, aloof from the rapine and poverty into which the country had fallen.\u201d Given his foolishly underwhelming \u00adresponse to the storming of the Capitol, \u201cthe legacy that awaits him\u201d is \u00adalmost certainly that of a tyrant. We underestimate the significance of this act of unilateral purging at our peril.
