It was two game<\/a>s, for goodness sake.<\/p>\n

Yet Lamar Jackson, in only his third NFL season, already was being labeled a postseason failure, disapp<\/a>ointment, choker, (insert your own derogatory armchair-quarterback analysis).<\/p>\n

That Jackson is the reigning NFL MVP and the fact that the Ravens had a 30-7 record with him at quarterback entering Sunday\u2019s AFC wild-card playoff game against the Titans in Nashville, didn\u2019t seem to supersede the fact that Jackson was 0-2 in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Because nothing was going to change that narrative until he led the Ravens to a playoff victory.<\/p>\n

So, Jackson did that on Sunday, quarterbacking the Ravens to a gritty 20-13 victory over the Titans, who\u2019d handed him and his team their most recent playoff loss, a year ago almost to the day.<\/p>\n

And it was the way this game unfolded that should make up for both of Jackson\u2019s playoff losses, because this one didn\u2019t look very good for him and the Titans early, trailing 10-0.<\/p>\n

Jackson probably didn\u2019t know at the time that the Ravens were the only NFL team in the past four years that hadn\u2019t overcome a deficit of 10 or more points to win.<\/p>\n

No matter. After a sluggish start, he completed 17 of 24 passes for 179 yards and rushed for 136 yards, including a dynamic 48-yard TD run that tied the game at 10-10 at a time when the Ravens offense was scuffling.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s one of the best runs I\u2019ve ever seen,\u2019\u2019 Ravens coach John Harbaugh said of Jackson\u2019s scramble under pass-rush duress on a third-and-9 play in the second quarter. \u201cIt\u2019s the best run I\u2019ve ever seen by a quarterback. Just a phenomenal play. It just got us back in the game. We needed points at that point.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

It tied the game at 10-10 after a Jackson interception had gifted the Titans a field goal and a 10-0 lead a short time earlier, an underthrown pass that had Jackson infuriated, even after the victory.<\/p>\n

When it was finally over, the Ravens having clinched their first playoff win in six years, Jackson was handed the game ball in the locker room by Harbaugh and mobbed by his teammates in a jubilant celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe took over the game,\u2019\u2019 Ravens tackle Orlando Brown Jr. said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the criticism he\u2019s been getting is just unfair, and for him to play the way he did and get this win, I think it\u2019s going to silence a lot of doubters,\u2019\u2019 Ravens 300-pound fullback Patrick Picard said.<\/p>\n

Jackson left little doubt on this Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy for myself, but I\u2019m almost more happy for Lamar,\u2019\u2019 Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. \u201cIt sucks to be in his position at times that when you lose, it\u2019s all his fault. It\u2019s nobody else\u2019s fault. It\u2019s always Lamar\u2019s fault. I know it\u2019s a team game, but it seems like whenever it\u2019s a loss, it\u2019s always just his fault.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not like Jackson played like a dog in those two playoff losses.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonally, I don\u2019t think he\u2019s ever played bad in the playoffs,\u2019\u2019 Brown said.<\/p>\n

He was 14 of 29 for 194 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in 23-17 loss to the Chargers in 2018 and 31 of 59 for 365 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in last year\u2019s loss to Titans.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely trying to erase that narrative,\u201d Jackson told reporters on Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019ve only been to the playoffs twice in my young career. Other people have been in the league forever and haven\u2019t been to the playoffs at all.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Harbaugh said \u201cthere was a lot of attention\u2019\u2019 on Jackson\u2019s two playoff losses, adding, \u201cThat\u2019s how it works. We understand the nature of it. But it\u2019s a team game. It\u2019s something that he won\u2019t have to talk about in the future, and that\u2019s a meaningful thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, Jackson now takes his team to next week\u2019s divisional round with a chance to advance to the AFC Championship game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m super proud of him \u2014 just to get that monkey off his back,\u2019\u2019 Ravens receiver Marquise Brown said. \u201cNow, we can just try to build on it and keep going.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
