{"id":152362,"date":"2021-01-12T00:26:07","date_gmt":"2021-01-11T21:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nasa-is-extending-mars-and-jupiter-missions-citing-notable-success\/"},"modified":"2021-01-12T00:26:07","modified_gmt":"2021-01-11T21:26:07","slug":"nasa-is-extending-mars-and-jupiter-missions-citing-notable-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nasa-is-extending-mars-and-jupiter-missions-citing-notable-success\/","title":{"rendered":"#NASA is extending Mars and Jupiter missions, citing notable success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NASA is extending Mars and Jupiter missions, citing notable success<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/01\/juno-nasa.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Citing discoveries that have \u201cproduced exceptional <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/science\/air-and-space\/nasa\">NASA<\/a>\u00a0has decided to add\u00a0several\u00a0years to two of its\u00a0planetary science missions: the\u00a0Jupiter\u00a0Juno mission and the\u00a0Mars\u00a0InSight lander.<\/p>\n<p>After a lengthy review process,<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lpi.usra.edu\/NASA-academies-resources\/\"> which can be found\u00a0here<\/a>, the space agency concluded that both missions have \u201cincreased our understanding of our solar system, as well as spurred new sets of diverse questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Senior Review has validated that these two planetary science missions are likely to continue to bring new discoveries, and produce new questions about our solar system,\u201d said Lori Glaze, director of the planetary science division, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/nasa-extends-exploration-for-two-planetary-science-missions\">in a\u00a0statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thank the members of the Senior Review panel for their comprehensive analysis and thank the mission teams as well, who will now continue to provide exciting opportunities to refine our understanding of the dynamic science of Jupiter and Mars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Juno has made a number of discoveries about Jupiter, including capturing\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/jupiters-dramatic-features-captured-during-nasas-juno-mission-wow-space-enthusiasts\">remarkable, never-before-seen images<\/a>, as well as a \u201csnow-white\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/nasa-juno-stunning-jupiter-white-oval-storm\">oval storm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Juno mission launched in 2011 and was scheduled to stop functioning in July 2021, but will now continue until September 2025 or the end of its life, whichever comes first. Not only will Juno continue to observe the gas giant, but it will also look at the planet\u2019s rings and its moons, including \u201cclose flybys\u201d of\u00a0Ganymede, Europa, and Io.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Europa, the sixth-largest moon in the Solar System, is home to an ocean that\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/ocean-jupiters-moon-could-be-habitable\">\u201ccould be habitable,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0researchers have said previously. In August 2019, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/nasa-explore-jupiters-moon-europa\">NASA\u00a0confirmed<\/a>\u00a0it would send a mission to Europa to further explore the celestial body.<\/p>\n<p>At a cost of\u00a0$828 million, the InSight lander became\u00a0the space agency\u2019s first probe to reach the Red Planet in six years, following the August 2012 landing of the Curiosity Rover.<\/p>\n<p>The InSight lander mission will be extended at least through December 2022. It will continue its work gathering seismic and weather data, as well conducting research using\u00a0its heat probe.<\/p>\n<p>The InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport)\u00a0mission, which is managed by NASA\u2019s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has provided scientists with a wealth of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/mars-insight-lander-shows-off-first-image-from-mars\">stunning\u00a0images\u00a0and discoveries<\/a> since landing\u00a0safely on the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/nasas-insight-mars-lander-set-for-seven-minutes-of-terror-as-it-prepares-to-land-on-red-planet\">Red Planet<\/a>\u00a0in November 2018 after\u00a0\u201cseven minutes of terror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lander had originally been scheduled to blast off in March 2016, but NASA\u00a0suspended\u00a0its launch preparations when a vacuum leak was found in the craft\u2019s prime science instrument.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2019, the\u00a0InSight l<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/nasas-insight-lander-mars-quake\">ander\u00a0recorded<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0first-ever \u201cMars quake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In September 2019, the InSight <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/bizarre-magnetic-pulses-found-on-mars-it-raises-interesting-questions\">lander\u00a0detected<\/a>\u00a0bizarre bursts of magnetic pulses on\u00a0Mars\u00a0that raised\u00a0\u201cinteresting questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NASA\u2019s long-term goal is to send a manned mission to Mars in the 2030s.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
