Joe Carnahan<\/strong>\u2018s action film\u00a0Boss Level<\/em><\/strong> has been waiting since 2019 for someone to release it, and now Hulu has finally set a date: March 5<\/strong>. The time loop film features Frank Grillo<\/strong>, Mel Gibson<\/strong>, and Naomi Watts<\/strong>, and follows a\u00a0former special forces agent who keeps repeating the same day: the day of his murder. Which means this is less like\u00a0Groundhog Day<\/em>, and more like\u00a0Happ<\/a>y Death Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Late last year we reported that\u00a0Boss Level<\/em> was headed to Hulu. Now, we have a date \u2013 March 5. The action film comes from Joe Carnahan, director of\u00a0The Grey<\/em>,\u00a0Narc<\/em>, and more. In\u00a0Boss Level<\/em>, \u201cTrapped in a time loop that constantly repeats the day of his murder, former special forces agent Roy Pulver (Frank Grillo) uncovers clues about a secret government project that could unlock the mystery behind his untimely death. In a race against the clock, Pulver must hunt down Colonel Ventor (Mel Gibson), the powerful head of the government program, while outrunning skilled ruthless assassins determined to keep him from the truth in order to break out of the loop, save his ex-wife (Naomi Watts) and live once again for tomorrow.\u201d
\nIt\u2019s interesting how movies<\/a> about time loops have become their own little subgenre over the years.\u00a0Groundhog Day<\/em> is perhaps the most famous, but the list includes\u00a0Happy Death Day<\/em>,\u00a0Edge of Tomorrow<\/em>,\u00a0Palm Springs<\/em>,\u00a0Triangle<\/em>, and more (there was even an X-Files<\/em> episode that used the idea). Perhaps this concept resonates so well with people because we all feel as if we\u2019re stuck in our own time loops, reliving the same damn day over and over again.<\/p>\n

Boss Level<\/em> was originally purchased by\u00a0Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures in 2018. They planned on\u00a0releasing the flick on\u00a0August 16, 2019. But that never happened, and Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures had dropped the film entirely\u00a0by June of 2020. While the film awaited release,\u00a0Carnahan screened it for an audience in Hollywood in February of 2020, where it generated some\u00a0positive buzz.<\/p>\n

I like most of Carnahan\u2019s work, and I\u2019m curious about\u00a0Boss Level<\/em>. That said, it\u2019s worth noting that the film features Mel Gibson, who will always carry toxic baggage around due to several incidents<\/a> from his personal life. In addition to Grillo, Gibson, and Watts,\u00a0Boss Level<\/em> also features\u00a0Annabelle Wallis<\/strong>, Ken Jeong<\/strong>, Will Sasso<\/strong>, Selina Lo<\/strong>, Meadow Williams<\/strong>, and Michelle Yeoh<\/strong>. The script comes from\u00a0Chris Borey, Eddie Borey, and Joe Carnahan.<\/p>\n
