DOOM\u2019s wife Jasmine\u00a0made the announcement on December 31, just as the dumpster fire of the year 2020 was coming to a close.<\/p>\n<p>According to MRC Data, DOOM\u2019s streams exploded by roughly 870 percent in the wake of his death announcement, with 25.4 millions streams in the week between December 31 and January 5 alone. On January 1, the day after his death was revealed, listeners streamed DOOM\u2019s tracks 8.8 million times. The album also re-entered the Billboard 200 at No.\u00a07, the first time it\u2019s appeared on the chart since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Stones Throw Records label head Peanut Butter Wolf confirmed a\u00a0sequel to the\u00a0<em>Madvillainy<\/em> album is nearly finished.\u00a0During a recent episode of Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg\u2019s <em>Juan Ep Is Dead<\/em> podcast, he discussed the project at length.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMadvillain 2, DOOM was always telling me, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m 85 percent done\u2019 \u2014 that was always the magic number, and I was like, \u2018This is cool,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cHe basically sent us 11 tracks in 2009 and I was ready to try to just finish it up at that point, and it was always like, just wait for a few more songs, wait for a few more songs, then tracks would start being on other albums. I got a little frustrated, and I was just like, \u2018Well, it\u2019s gonna happen when it happens. I don\u2019t wanna be the guy to force creativity or any of that.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Peanut Butter Wolf added he\u2019d been speaking to Rhymesayers Entertainment CEO and DOOM\u2019s manager Brent \u201cSiddiq\u201d Sayers about the next steps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what we\u2019re gonna do with those tracks,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were talking to DOOM\u2019s manager Saadiq and Saadiq was basically all with the idea, but we haven\u2019t worked everything out or whatever. I always have weird feelings about doing things after someone passed away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Madvillainy<\/em> made history in the United Kingdom last week when it was certified silver, the London-born MC\u2019s first album to do so.<\/p>\n<p>DOOM was 49 at the time of his death.
