Chief Executive Bob Swan is facing his swan song as the company moves in a new direction with its leadership. <\/p>\n<p> Shares of Intel<br \/>\n        INTC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203649727\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+6.97%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       closed up 7% at $56.95 Wednesday after the company said it would be replacing Swan with VMware Inc. Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger. VMware shares<br \/>\n        VMW,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209864107\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-6.79%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       on the other hand, finished down 6.8% at $133.20, while shares of Dell Technologies Inc.<br \/>\n        DELL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203822527\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-7.19%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       which owns a sizable chunk of VMware, closed down 7.2% at $71.23.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Swan served as Intel\u2019s CEO for two years in an official capacity and held the position on an interim basis for seven months prior. He oversaw a tumultuous period for Intel, as the company fell behind with its process <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>. Intel admitted in July that its next generation of chips would be delayed and that it might work with a third party to manufacture them in a departure from previous practices.<\/p>\n<p>When Swan assumed the CEO role permanently back in January 2019, there was some concern that his background as Intel\u2019s former chief financial officer meant he lacked the technology experience needed to steer Intel through its challenges. His tenure as CEO ends Feb. 15.<\/p>\n<p>Intel said in a release that the announcement \u201cis unrelated to Intel\u2019s 2020 financial performance\u201d and that the company expects to exceed its fourth-quarter revenue and earnings guidance. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of Swan\u2019s impending departure was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/13\/intel-ceo-bob-swan-to-step-down-in-february.html\" class=\"icon none\">first reported by CNBC earlier Wednesday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gelsinger returns to Intel after beginning his career with the company. Bernstein\u2019s Stacy Rasgon, who has an underperform rating on Intel\u2019s stock, wrote that Gelsinger \u201cis admittedly a good hire\u201d and was probably the top external candidate considered during Intel\u2019s last CEO search a few years ago. <\/p>\n<p>Still, Rasgon cautioned that it could take many years before Gelsinger can meaningfully turn things around at Intel. \u201cAny changes (whether made by Bob or Pat or whomever) are not going to bear fruit for quite some time, and the next three years or so (which will include guaranteed share losses to AMD, customers moving to alternative ecosystems across PC and datacenter, and further slippage of the technology roadmap) are likely already set in stone, and there is not much Pat is going to be able to do to change that,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Opinion:\u00a0How did Intel lose its Silicon Valley crown?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shares of rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc.<br \/>\n        AMD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208144392\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-3.75%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       closed down 3.8% Wednesday. AMD has benefitted from Intel\u2019s recent missteps as well as its own strong execution. <\/p>\n<p>Activist hedge fund Third Point LLC has been pushing for changes at Intel. The company announced a \u201csignificant stake\u201d in the company in late December and wrote a letter criticizing \u201chow the boards who presided over Intel\u2019s decline could have permitted management to fritter away the Company\u2019s leading market position while simultaneously rewarding them handsomely with extravagant compensation packages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through Tuesday, Intel shares have gained nearly 21% since Swan was named the company\u2019s permanent CEO on Jan. 31, 2019 through Tuesday. The PHLX Semiconductor Index<br \/>\n        SOX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598361\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.13%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       had gained 135% over that span, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.03%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       had increased 24%.
