It\u2019s no secret that smartphone apps have the ability to access a lot of permissions\u2014if you let them. It\u2019s important to make sure apps aren\u2019t abusing permissions to protect your privacy. Android makes it easy to see which apps can access your location.<\/p>\n

Android apps are required to ask for permission to access your location. Beginning in Android 11, you can even grant apps one-time access to your location. This means that you don\u2019t have to worry about apps grabbing your location after you leave the app.<\/p>\n

Regardless of how well you may monitor permissions, it\u2019s a good idea to check up on which apps can access your location every once in a while. It\u2019s easily done.<\/p>\n

First, open the Settings menu on your Android phone or tablet by\u00a0swiping down from the top of the screen (once or twice depending on your device\u2019s manufacturer) to open the notification shade, then tap the gear icon.<\/p>\n

Next, go to the \u201cPrivacy\u201d section.<\/p>\n

Select \u201cPermission Manager.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Permission Manager lists all of the different permissions that apps can access. There\u2019s everything from Body Sensors to Call Logs here. The one that we want is \u201cLocation.\u201d<\/p>\n

This screen may look a little different depending on which Android version you have and the manufacturer\u2019s skin. At the top, you\u2019ll see the apps that can access your location \u201cAll The Time.\u201d Under that is \u201cOnly While In Use,\u201d and lastly, you\u2019ll see apps that you have denied access to.<\/p>\n

To change the location permission for an app, simply select it from the list.<\/p>\n

Now you can change your permission preference.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it! This is a handy way to easily change permissions for a bunch of apps at once. It\u2019s a nice centralized location for a permission check-up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
