Parler\u00a0on Thursday urged a US judge to order Amazon to restore the company\u2019s account, saying Amazon had no evidence the social media<\/a> platform was used to incite last week\u2019s storming of the Capitol.<\/p>\n

At a hearing in Seattle federal court,\u00a0Parler\u2019s lawyer David Groesbeck said the company would suffer irreparable harm if forced to close and that keeping it alive served the public interest. He also downplayed\u00a0Parler\u2019s role in the riots in Washington.<\/p>\n

\u201cMillions of law-abiding Americans have had their voices silenced,\u201d Groesbeck told US District Judge Barbara Rothstein. \u201cThere is no evidence, other than some anecdotal press references, that\u00a0Parler\u00a0was involved in inciting the riots.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parler\u00a0is favored by many supporters of President Trump and claimed more than 12 million users.<\/p>\n

Amazon Web Services cut off\u00a0Parler\u00a0on Sunday night, saying\u00a0Parler\u00a0had shrugged off repeated warnings to remove violent content.<\/p>\n

It said this content included calls to assassinate Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, Amazon\u2019s Jeff Bezos, Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg and the media.<\/p>\n

Ambika Doran, a lawyer for Amazon, said\u00a0Parler\u00a0violated its contract by allowing such content and had not shown it could effectively monitor content.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmazon made the only real choice that it could, which was to suspend the account,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Parler\u00a0said Amazon had no contractual right to pull the plug and did so in a politically motivated bid to benefit Twitter, a larger Amazon client that\u00a0Parler\u00a0said did not censor violent content targeting conservatives.<\/p>\n

It wants a temporary court order to be restored to Amazon\u2019s servers while it litigates.<\/p>\n

Rothstein said she would rule \u201cas quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

App<\/a>le and Google removed\u00a0Parler\u00a0from their app stores after last week\u2019s unrest.<\/p>\n

John Matze,\u00a0Parler\u2019s chief executive, told Reuters on Wednesday that\u00a0Parler\u00a0may never get back online, but later he said\u00a0Parler\u00a0would return and be stronger.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
