There\u2019s a story making the rounds that sounds too good to be true. Here\u2019s the gist of it: Tom Cruise<\/strong> app<\/a>arently brought a pair of terrifying robots to the set of\u00a0Mission: Impossible 7<\/em><\/strong> to guard against COVID-19. Now, I know what you\u2019re saying: \u201cThat\u2019s fucking amazing.\u201d But you\u2019re\u00a0also<\/em> probably saying, \u201cHey, that sounds made up!\u201d And I agree! But let\u2019s be honest: if there\u2019s a story about Tommy Cruise bringing some scary robots to his movie set, we\u2019re not\u00a0not<\/em> going to cover it.<\/p>\n

But we can tell you right now that it\u2019s not accurate.<\/p>\n

As you probably recall, Tom Cruise made headlines recently when he angrily berated certain crew members on the\u00a0Mission: Impossible 7<\/em> set who were ignoring COVID safety protocols. Now, there\u2019s an addendum to that, insinuating that Cruise is\u00a0so<\/em> determined to make sure no one else messes up again that he shelled out a ton of money for some COVID-19 robots. The robots are said to be \u201can intimidating reminder to obey the Covid safety rules when filming resumes.\u201d But on top of that, the alleged Cruise-Bots can also \u201cadminister on-the-spot tests to staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rumor about Tom Cruise\u2019s fear-inducing COVID-bots comes from\u00a0The Sun<\/em> (via Yahoo<\/a>), and\u00a0The Sun<\/em> is, of course, a tabloid. Which means they\u2019re prone to sensationalism and exaggeration sometimes.\u00a0The Sun<\/em>\u00a0even quotes a source as saying: \u201cTom is so serious about making sure the shoot isn\u2019t shut down that he\u2019s splashed out on these robots as he can\u2019t be everywhere to ensure people are behaving themselves. The robots are really sophisticated and rather intimidating. It\u2019s like the Terminator<\/em> only not as violent.\u201d<\/p>\n

The story sounded too wild to believe, so before we just went ahead and wrote up the tale of Tom Cruise\u2019s maniacal machines, we reached out to a source close to the production to get the truth. That source has told us the story is inaccurate and confirmed that there are no robots on set. To be fair, there\u00a0are<\/em> robots that administer COVID-19 tests. Here\u2019s a video of one. It\u2019s terrifying.<\/p>\n
