In what will likely come as a shock to fans, insiders say that Chris Evans is preparing to once again play Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. <\/p>\n

The actor, 39, is rumored to be reprising the role in at least one upcoming Marvel movie, with the potential for two, sources told Deadline<\/a>. Marvel did not respond to the publication\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n

The film likely would not focus on Captain America\u2019s own storyline, instead featuring the character, the insiders added. <\/p>\n

However, in a three-word tweet<\/a> Thursday afternoon, Evans himself threw cold water on the scoop, writing simply, \u201cNews<\/a> to me,\u201d alongside a shrugging emoji.<\/p>\n

The development comes after Evans formally hung up his star-spangled superhero costume in 2019\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Endgame<\/a>.\u201d At the end of the film, he makes the gesture of passing Captain America\u2019s shield to Falcon (Anthony Mackie), who presumably takes over the title and relieves Steve of his alter ego. <\/p>\n

Despite the seemingly cut-and-dried sunsetting of the character, Marvel is known for finding ways to continue a character\u2019s storyline no matter how blunt their app<\/a>arent death or retirement, so the news isn\u2019t entirely unprecedented. <\/p>\n

Evans has continued to make headlines through quarantine, most recently when Arnold Schwarzenegger mistook his son-in-law<\/a>, Chris Pratt, for Evans while appearing on Pratt\u2019s Greater Good Instagram telethon. <\/p>\n

\u201cHello, Chris \u2026 Evans. Not Chris Evans, sorry. I screw up this whole thing right from the beginning. Chris Pratt,\u201d Schwarzenegger said, laughing.<\/p>\n

Twitter<\/a> also pit Evans against his fellow Chrises in a Chris-off involving a viral post captioned \u201cOne has to go,\u201d featuring headshots of Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Pratt and Evans. Respondents overwhelmingly voted out \u201cParks and Recreation\u201d actor Pratt, citing him reportedly\u00a0being a President Trump supporter<\/a>\u00a0and \u2014 in a claim that Pratt, 41, has denied \u2014 last year\u00a0supporting a church<\/a>\u00a0that maintains anti-LGBTQ beliefs.<\/p>\n

Others argued that all the Chrises look the same to them. \u201cHow to choose?\u201d the competition-critic\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0alongside photos of four tubs of Friendly\u2019s vanilla ice cream.\n <\/div>\n
