The two are now headed for \u201cdivorce\u201d \u2014 and China\u2019s \u201coverreach\u201d is largely to blame: Under President Xi Jinping, the country has persecuted Uighurs, \u201caggressively\u201d projected its power in the South China Sea, limited journalists\u2019 rights, curtailed freedoms in Hong Kong and \u201chammered countries\u201d that seek an independent inquiry into the coronavirus\u2019 origins. The United States, meanwhile, has \u201cunderperformed,\u201d reducing investments in infrastructure, education and \u201cgovernment-funded scientific research,\u201d among other things. America and its allies now have to force Beijing to \u201caccept new rules\u201d on trade, COVID-19 and other issues. Alas, Beijing \u201crespects one thing only: leverage.\u201d And \u201ctoday, we have too little and China has too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Libertarian: Farewell, Journalism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many elite journalists now argue that journalism should aim for \u201cmoral clarity\u201d instead of \u201cneutral objectivity\u201d \u2014 a swap, Reason\u2019s Matt Welch contends, that means \u201cconsciously elevating narrative \u2018truths\u2019 over verified facts.\u201d Pulitzer Prize-winner Wesley Lowery, for one, wants journalists to \u201cpositively identify individuals and organizations as \u2018racist\u2019\u200a\u201d \u2014 but how could they know? \u201cDo \u2018civil rights\u2019 include the individual right to keep and bear arms, or to grow your own medical marijuana for personal consumption?\u201d The new standard will let left-wing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> showcase their \u201cideological sympathy,\u201d inevitably leading to \u201cjournalistic sloppiness\u201d or even \u201cactual malfeasance.\u201d If the journalists take \u201crefuge in subjectivity\u201d instead of aiming for objectivity, as media historian Tom Rosenstiel warns, \u201cjournalism will be lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: Trump\u2019s Good Immigration Move<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The last thing America\u2019s pandemic-wracked economy needs is more foreign workers, argue National Review\u2019s editors, so President Trump was right to issue a \u201cnew proclamation restricting many types of immigration through the end of the year.\u201d Trump plainly had the requisite \u00adauthority, since \u201ccurrent law gives the president incredibly broad authority to restrict immigration he deems \u2018detrimental to the interests of the United States.\u2019\u200a\u201d And policy-wise, \u201cthe pandemic has temporarily changed America\u2019s immigration needs. Seeing the jobless rate elevated throughout the economy,\u201d the president correctly concluded that we have need of far fewer foreign workers. \u201cIf Congress doesn\u2019t like his decision, it is free to change the law at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture critic: Drawing a Line on Statue-Toppling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Back in 2017, recalls The Washington Post\u2019s Megan McArdle, President Trump \u201ccame in for much derision\u201d for suggesting that efforts to get rid of Confederate statues would soon lead to targeting of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Three years later, \u201cTrump looks prescient, and his critics perhaps a touch na\u00efve\u201d: \u201cThe iconoclasts, having largely defeated the rebel army, are turning on the Founding Fathers.\u201d Trump understood that \u201cyou cannot credibly declare that some revolution in social affairs,\u201d from gay marriage to toppling statues, \u201chas a natural stopping point unless you personally commit to stopping it when it goes too far.\u201d Otherwise, \u201cyou will cede issue after issue to the radicals\u201d \u2014 and \u201cend up with something very different\u201d from your original \u201cidealistic vision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Media watch: Freaking Out Over VOA Pick<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ignore the Voice of America\u2019s \u201cdysfunction and criminality,\u201d snarks Curtis Ellis at American Greatness; \u201cthe usual suspects, The New York Times and The Washington Post among them, are sounding the alarm\u201d over President Trump\u2019s choice to head the agency, Michael Pack, because he \u201cis \u2014 gasp! \u2014 a conservative\u201d with ties to Stephen Bannon. The VOA, they claim, will \u00adbecome \u201can arm of the Trump re-election committee.\u201d Most \u201camusing\u201d is how these \u201ccorporate media overlords\u201d see themselves \u201cas exemplars\u201d of \u201cobjective reporting\u201d: They\u2019re basically saying if the VOA doesn\u2019t do what they do, it\u2019s \u201cprima facie evidence\u201d of interference.
