Amazon intends to open a mammoth warehouse at a Hamptons airport, a project that isn\u2019t landing well with residents on the tony east end of Long Island.<\/p>\n

The giant e-tailer wants to build a 91,000-square-foot distribution hub at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach, but the seaside village of nearly 2,000 is worried the already heavy airplane traffic would become nonstop. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be horrible,\u201d said one resident who has had a summer home in the village since 2003. \u201cI\u2019m already hearing airplanes when I sit outside by the pool in the summer. Can you imagine if Amazon is here?\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for Amazon declined to comment Friday, telling The Post only that the company weighs \u201ca variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Suffolk County-owned Gabreski, which has an Air Force base on the grounds, services private jets, helicopters and single-engine recreational planes, an airport spokesman told The Post. <\/p>\n

Last year, Gabreski had nearly 56,000 \u201coperations\u201d \u2014 takeoffs and landings, the spokesman said. <\/p>\n

In November, Rechler Equity Partners secured $2.3 million in tax <\/a>breaks to build a $36 million warehouse in an industrial park on airport land, where the Long Island developer has already constructed three warehouses. The Amazon space is slated to create 100 construction jobs and 50 full-time Amazon staff slots, Rechler has said.<\/p>\n

Suffolk County legislator Robert Trotta doesn\u2019t like the hub plan. The Republican claims Rechler snagged the deal by misleading the county, stating on an aid app<\/a>lication that Amazon would pick an out-of-state warehouse if lawmakers didn\u2019t OK the tax breaks. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhy are we giving billionaires tax breaks?\u201d Trotta told The Post. \u201cThe tax breaks \u2014 they got should be immedia<\/a>tely rescinded.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rechler did not return The Post\u2019s calls Friday.<\/p>\n

Rechler\u2019s Hamptons Business District prohibits tenants from receiving freight deliveries at the airport, but Trotta and residents don\u2019t think Amazon will abide by that rule \u2014 at least for long. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think they are not going to be using airplanes and drones, you are totally out of your mind,\u201d said an entrepreneur in Westhampton Beach. \u201cFrom a business point of view, I support them coming as a land-based distribution hub, but it\u2019s totally naive to believe they won\u2019t be eventually using the airport for air freight deliveries.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
