Here\u2019s how to view its contents.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Download_Mozilla_Thunderbird\"><\/span>Download Mozilla Thunderbird<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Our favorite app for opening an MBOX file is the open-source Mozilla Thunderbird application. We performed the steps here with Mozilla Thunderbird version 78, which was the current version as of January 15, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>To get started, download <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/en-US\/\">Mozilla Thunderbird<\/a> and install it. It\u2019s available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Launch_Thunderbird_and_Set_Up_an_Account\"><\/span>Launch Thunderbird and Set Up an Account<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re not already using Mozilla Thunderbird, you\u2019ll see a \u201cSet Up Your Existing Email Address\u201d dialog box the first time you open it. Click \u201cCancel\u201d to continue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-709720 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/1-cancel.png\" alt=\"Click &quot;Cancel.&quot;\" width=\"650\" height=\"608\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Thunderbird wants to become your default email application. You\u2019ll see the name of the MBOX file under \u201cLocal Folders\u201d in Thunderbird. Remember that Thunderbird is pointed at your MBOX file wherever it is on your computer.
