Rep.\u00a0Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u00a0said she disagrees with\u00a0President-elect Biden\u00a0on his \u201coptimistic\u201d view of the GOP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one area where I believe that there\u2019s kind of a track record of some slight disagreement between the president-elect and myself, and I say that, you know \u2013 this is it, it\u2019s not a fight \u2013 it\u2019s just a disagreement,\u201d the New York Democrat said in a virtual town hall on Friday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that President-elect Biden has a very optimistic view of the Republican Party. He,\u00a0he has made statements on, you know, once Trump is gone, they will see the error of their ways. And I app<\/a>laud his optimism\u00a0but I disagree with his assessment,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

Ocasio-Cortez\u00a0 said she was concerned about Democrats attempting to \u201cwater down [COVID] relief\u201d while they have the congressional majority to \u201cappease Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n

This week, the president-elect unveiled a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief proposal that includes $1,400 stimulus checks, $400 extended unemployment, state and local government funding, rental assistance and a moratorium on evictions, among other priorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The $1,400 together with the most recent COVID relief bill\u2019s $600 stimulus checks\u00a0is not enough,\u00a0Ocasio-Cortez said.\u00a0\u201c$2,000 means $2,000. $2,000 does not mean $1,400,\u2033 she told The Washington Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a follow-up tweet, Ocasio-Cortez argued that Congress should provide retroactive unemployment relief, in addition to the $400 per week that Biden included in his proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t be slow walking or minimizing or hedging our ambitions because of Republicans, because this country elected Democrats and we elected a Democratic majority to get them health care, to get them stimulus checks, to get them rent protection, all of which are provisions that are included in Biden\u2019s relief plan that I\u2019m thrilled are included in Biden\u2019s relief plan and that we look forward to expanding and building upon,\u201d the progressive firebrand said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Biden throughout his campaign touted his work across the aisle during his decades in Congress, and giving Republicans a spot front and center at the Democratic National Convention.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When Biden chose former Ohio Gov. John Kasich to speak at the DNC, Ocasio-Cortez slammed him as an \u201canti-choice extremist\u201d\u00a0and \u201cnot a friend to workers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople on the extreme, whether they\u2019re on the left or on the right, they get outsized publicity that tends to define their party,\u201d the Ohio Republican clapped back.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I listen to people all the time make these statements, and because AOC gets outsized publicity doesn\u2019t mean she represents the Democratic Party. She\u2019s just a part, just some member of it.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
