\n The city\u2019s top cop said the criminal-justice system was \u201cimploding,\u201d as he highlighted a rise in shootings and killings on the city\u2019s streets and slammed pols for refusing to support the Finest at an invite-only press conference at NYPD headquarters this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to step back and look at this. You have a criminal-justice system that is imploding,\u201d Police Commissioner Dermot Shea bemoaned during a small meeting with reporters on Wednesday at One Police Plaza in Manhattan. \u201cImploding. That\u2019s the kindest way to put it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shea went on to point out that many criminal cases that were \u201congoing,\u201d \u201cstagnant\u201d or \u201cdeferred.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEach one of those represents somebody not being held accountable and no consequences,\u201d Shea said.<\/p>\n

The comments come as the city is gripped by a steep rise in shootings \u2014 though crime is actually down for the year 2.5 percent, according to NYPD data.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
