A New Jersey man who is a US Navy contractor with \u201csecret\u201d security clearance has been charged with taking part in the US Capitol riot, federal authorities said.<\/p>\n

Timothy Louis Hale-Cusanelli, 30 \u2014 described as an \u201cavowed white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer\u201d in court papers \u2014 allegedly told other pro-Trump rioters to \u201cadvance\u201d during the deadly Jan. 6 siege.<\/p>\n

He was charged Friday with five federal counts, including: knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority; disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds; disrupting the orderly conduct of government business; parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building; and obstructing a law enforcement officer.<\/p>\n

A US Army reservist, Hale-Cusanelli works at the Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, where he has access to \u201ca variety of munitions,\u201d according to an affidavit filed in US District Court in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service began looking into Hale-Cusanelli after receiving a tip from an informant who\u00a0said the Colts Neck man had confessed to breaking into the Capitol.<\/p>\n

Hale-Cusanelli allegedly showed the informant videos of himself \u201cmaking harassing and derogatory statements toward Capitol Police officers both inside and outside the Capitol building,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n

In a recorded conversation with the informant on Thursday, Hale-Cusanelli admitted to encouraging other members of the mob to \u201cadvance \u2014 giving directions via both voice and hand signals,\u201d the court papers allege.<\/p>\n

He said that \u201cif they\u2019d had more men they could have taken over the entire building,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n

Hale-Cusanelli also allegedly admitted to taking a flag and flagpole that he\u2019d seen another rioter throw \u201clike a javelin\u201d at a Capitol Police officer.<\/p>\n

He said that he wanted to get rid of the flag and flagpole as soon as he could, describing it as a \u201cmurder weapon,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n

The informant described Hale-Cusanelli as a white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer known for \u201cproffering extreme political opinions and viewpoints,\u201d on a YouTube<\/a> channel called the \u201cBased Hermes Show\u201d and on other online forums.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrior to travel<\/a>ing to the rally and protest on January 6, 2021, Hale-Cusanelli wrote \u2018Trust the plan, it\u2019s the final countdown, stay tuned next episode,\u2019 and \u2018Trust the plan, major announcement soon,’\u201d the court docs state.<\/p>\n

Hale-Cusanelli was arrested Friday. It was unclear whether he had an attorney on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to an Associated Press review, at least 22 current or former members of the US military or law enforcement have been identified as being at or near\u00a0the riot.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
