To say we&#8217;re thrilled would be a massive understatement, but 240 characters couldn&#8217;t do it justice anyway. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZKpoi7hkGN\">pic.twitter.com\/ZKpoi7hkGN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Virgin Orbit (@Virgin_Orbit) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Virgin_Orbit\/status\/1350960438444511232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2021<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Boeing jet \u2014 nicknamed Cosmic Girl \u2014 flew from the\u00a0Mojave Air and Space Port in California to a drop point over the Pacific Ocean.\u00a0Onboard were customer carrier satellites sponsored by NASA, which contracted Virgin Orbit for the launch.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Read:\u00a0How Netflix shapes mainstream culture, explained by data]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>LauncherOne\u2019s computers then took control of the system before release and ignition.<\/p>\n<p>VirginOrbit founder Richard Branson said the company had\u00a0\u201cachieved something many thought impossible\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It was so inspiring to see our specially adapted Virgin Atlantic 747, Cosmic Girl, send the LauncherOne rocket soaring into orbit. This magnificent flight is the culmination of many years of hard work and will also unleash a whole new generation of innovators on the path to orbit. I can\u2019t wait to see the incredible missions Dan and the team will launch to change the world for good.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The launch came eight months after a previous Virgin Orbit\u00a0test failed when the rocket failed to fully ignite.<\/p>\n<p>The mission was designed to help Virgin Orbit tap into the growing market for commercial space transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u00a0believes it can offer a more flexible and affordable model to its competitors, as its rocket is launched from the air rather than the ground.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach has the potential to send satellites into orbit from any major airport,\u00a0and reduce the risk of weather-related cancellations.<\/p>\n<p>The company will now further test the system in Cornwall, UK.<\/p>\n<p>Will Whitehorn, the president of UKSpace said he\u2019s aiming for a launch during the G7 meeting, which this year takes place in the English seaside county.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
