Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday he had canceled his plans to attend President-elect Joe Biden\u2019s inauguration this week and will instead stay in Albany due to security concerns at state capitols around the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe inauguration is Wednesday. I was planning to go \u2014 I\u2019m not going to,\u201d Cuomo said during a virtual press briefing, adding, \u201cI think my place is to stay in New York state given this possible circumstance.\u201d<\/p>\n

There have been reports that armed protests are expected at all 50 state capitols, plus near the US Capitol, ahead of Inauguration Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have made preparations here,\u201d Cuomo said. \u201cWe have the State Police who have been making preparations. We have police officers on standby.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuomo continued, \u201cIf there\u2019s a possible situation here at the capitol, I\u2019m going to be at the capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people of the state of New York elected me governor and I think the governor should be here on this day,\u201d Cuomo said, while noting that he has sent his \u201cbest wishes\u201d to Biden.<\/p>\n
