Footage released Monday shows a top Twitter executive discussing the company\u2019s recent crackdown on accounts that push conspiracy theories, calling it a \u201cglobal\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n

Vijaya Gadde\u2019s comments to employees were leaked to the right-wing activist group Project Veritas, and a Twitter spokesperson confirmed the video is authentic.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeyond de-amplification, we are going to \u2014 conspiracy theories \u2014 we are going to be permanently suspending those accounts,\u201d Gadde says in the clip<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The statements app<\/a>eared to be related to Twitter\u2019s massive purge of 70,000 QAnon-related accounts\u00a0in the wake of the deadly\u00a0Jan. 6 riot\u00a0in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

Around the world, \u201cwe\u2019ve seen violence unfold as a result of either misleading information or coded rhetoric,\u201d Gadde told staffers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo a lot of our learning here has come from other markets. So in that sense, we do feel like it is \u2014 this is our global approach.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cWe need to be very focused on being able to enforce any of these policies or enforcement decisions we make at scale.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think long-term we want to be in terms of building trust and enforcing policies consistently and providing adamant notice before we take a very aggressive\u00a0step like a permanent suspension,\u201d Gadde said.<\/p>\n

In an unprecedented move, the social media giant also permanently banned President Trump from the platform two days after the Capitol siege \u201cdue to the risk of further incitement of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether we believe Trump\u2019s tweets are inciting violence and having real-world harm. I think that we\u2019ve seen in fact, they are,\u201d Gadde said in the video.<\/p>\n

In a clip published by Project Veritas last week, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey warned staffers\u00a0that the crackdown will be \u201cmuch bigger\u201d than just banning Trump\u2019s account.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u00a0are focused on one account\u00a0right now, but this is going to be much bigger than just one account, and it\u2019s going to go on for much longer than just this day, this week, and the next few weeks, and go on beyond the inauguration,\u201d Dorsey said.<\/p>\n

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of both clips. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe remarks shown in the video were delivered to our more than 5,400 employees and are nearly the same words Jack shared in a recent Tweet Thread<\/a> offering context around and reflections on our work<\/a> to protect the conversation in recent weeks,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Last week, Dorsey\u00a0explained Twitter\u2019s decision\u00a0in banning Trump in a lengthy thread.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe this was the right decision for Twitter,\u201d he tweeted. \u201cWe faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
