He didn\u2019t steal it guys. He paid for it and flipped with his own touches. He also has many non sampled beats as well. This just hip hop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yep \u2014 and that\u2019s just how Hip Hop has historically worked. Snoop Dogg sampled vocals and lyrics from Slave\u2019s 1980 single \u201cWatching You\u201d for 1993\u2019s \u201cGin &amp; Juice\u201d from his celebrated debut solo album <em>Doggstyle.\u00a0<\/em>DJ Quik lifted the rhythm and some of the lyrics from Kleer\u2019s 1984 cut \u201cTonight\u201d for his classic \u201cTonite\u201d from 1991\u2019s <em>Quik Is The Name, <\/em>while Dr. Dre pretty much ransacked Parliament-Funkadelic\u2019s entire catalog for his 1992 solo debut <em>The Chronic.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Let me see if I\u2019m following along. So ppl are trying to discredit <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Timbaland?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Timbaland<\/a> for sampling songs that became classic records in the &#8217;90s and 2000s but they haven\u2019t a clue that most of today\u2019s songs sample records from the 90s and 00\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LMvpRJd4JN\">pic.twitter.com\/LMvpRJd4JN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 emiliosparks (@emiliosparks) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/emiliosparks\/status\/1351294087756976129?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A quick peruse of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whosampled.com\/\">WhoSampled<\/a> website and it\u2019s easy to get a taste of the sheer number of samples pulsating through Hip Hop songs. But as Hip Hop ages, we\u2019re starting to see Hip Hop sampling Hip Hop \u2014 like Megan Thee Stallion\u2019s \u201cGirls In The Hood,\u201d which basically borrowed the entire concept from Eazy-E\u2019s 1987 track \u201cBoyz In The Hood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But guess what? \u2014 and this may totally blow your mind, I know \u2014 N.W.A &amp; The Posse sampled Jean Knight\u2019s 1971 hit \u201cMr. Big Stuff,\u201d Original Concept\u2019s \u201cPump That Bass\u201d and Whodini\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m A Ho,\u201d in addition to NINE OTHER SONGS for that track.<\/p>\n<p>Other albums such as EPMD\u2019s <em>Strictly Business<\/em>\u00a0comes with a plethora of samples from \u201970s and \u201980s soul\/funk, including Faze-O\u2019s Billboard Hot 100 hit \u201cRiding High,\u201d which serves as the sonic blueprint for \u201cPlease Listen To My Demo,\u201d and Kool &amp; The Gang\u2019s 1973 song \u201cJungle Boogie,\u201d which helped build \u201cYou\u2019re A Customer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And by no means is sampling a walk in the park. In 2007, both Timbaland and JAY-Z were sued for copyright infringement by Ramzy\u2019s uncle Osama Ahmed Fahmy. Four years and hundreds of thousands of dollars later, U.S. District Judge Christina A. Snyder ruled the family didn\u2019t have the right to pursue a copyright claim against Jay or Timbo. With a little Egyptian magic,\u201dBig Pimpin&#8217;\u201d went on to peak at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the most successful single from <em>Vol. 3\u2026 Life and Times of S. Carter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unless you\u2019re a Hip Hop producer like Pete Rock who recently stepped outside of the box with his first sample-free record <em>Petestrumentals 3,<\/em> you\u2019re sampling.
