\n Not only did this Westchester teen graduate at the top of her class, but she\u2019s also kept perfect school attendance \u2014 since pre-K.<\/p>\n

Valedictorian Ashanti Palmer, who recently graduated from Nellie A. Thornton HS in Mount Vernon, will keep her flawless attendance record going into college as well, according to \u201cGood Morning America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Palmer, 17, plans on attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, to study biomedical engineering on a pre-medical track.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were days when I didn\u2019t feel like going to school, but I know if you missed a day, then you were behind, so I pushed through,\u201d Palmer, whose favorite subject is math, told the program.<\/p>\n

\u201c[My friends] know I hate being behind in my work, so it was normal for me to show up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It all paid off \u2014 literally.<\/p>\n

Palmer, who completed school with a grade average of 99.08, was accepted to 18 colleges, and awarded more than $430,000 in scholarships.<\/p>\n

Thanks to her standout academic record, Palmer was inducted into the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Even before that, she had stayed on the honor roll since kindergarten. Her extracurricular activities included a mentoring program, in which she and other school-age girls were paired with career-focused women.<\/p>\n

And despite it all, she also made time for fun. She writes her own poetry, enjoys anime<\/a> and listens to dancehall and rap music.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s amazing,\u201d school principal Dr. Evelyn Collins, told GMA. \u201cI told our superintendent, \u2018We have a student who\u2019s never missed school and who has been on the honor roll since kindergarten.\u2019 How do we celebrate this child so other students can see that it\u2019s possible? She stayed on the path. She stayed on the journey. It\u2019s phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFocus on your own definition of success\u201d is Palmer\u2019s advice to her fellow students.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at someone and see inspiration, but never see envy,\u201d she added. \u201cWe all have our own paths to take. Be focused on that goal.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
