{"id":1587,"date":"2020-06-04T21:48:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-04T18:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/philadelphia-inquirer-journalists-walk-out-over-buildings-matter-too-headline\/"},"modified":"2020-06-04T21:48:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-04T18:48:00","slug":"philadelphia-inquirer-journalists-walk-out-over-buildings-matter-too-headline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/philadelphia-inquirer-journalists-walk-out-over-buildings-matter-too-headline\/","title":{"rendered":"#Philadelphia Inquirer journalists walk out over \u2018Buildings Matter, Too\u2019 headline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>Philadelphia Inquirer journalists walk out over \u2018Buildings Matter, Too\u2019 headline<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-wrapper\" role=\"main\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>        June 4, 2020 <span>|<\/span> 2:48pm              <span>|<\/span> Updated <span>June 4, 2020 | 2:55pm<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n                        Journalists at The Philadelphia Inquirer staged a partial walkout Thursday in outrage at a headline over the George Floyd protests that twisted the name of the group Black Lives Matter to read, \u201cBuildings Matter, Too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn June 4, we\u2019re calling in sick and tired,\u201d stated a letter signed by at least 44 \u201cJournalists of Color of The Philadelphia Inquirer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSick and tired of pretending things are OK,\u201d added the letter, tweeted by many of those stating they were staying home in protest. \u201cThe carelessness of our leadership makes it harder to do our jobs, and at worst puts our lives at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The headline \u2014 comparing the vandalism to buildings to the international outrage sparked by police-custody deaths \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared on page 12 of Wednesday\u2019s print edition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should not have printed it,\u201d the paper\u2019s editors wrote in an \u201capology to our readers and Inquirer employees\u201d late Wednesday, conceding it was \u201cdeeply offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re sorry, and regret that we did,\u201d continued the apology, signed by Editor Gabriel Escobar, Managing Editor Patrick Kerkstra and Executive Editor Stan Wischnowski.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15780089\"><img alt=\"Philadelphia Inquirer headline\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Philadelphia Inquirer<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe headline offensively riffed on the Black Lives Matter movement, and suggested an equivalence between the loss of buildings and the lives of black Americans.
