President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed three executive orders\u00a0as he set about to overturn several key directives of his predecessor Donald Trump in his first hours\u00a0working from the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

A tired-sounding\u00a0Biden, 78, signed orders re-joining the Paris Climate Accord, promoting \u201cracial equity\u201d in healthcare and other areas and requiring anti-COVID-19 masks be worn in federal buildings.<\/p>\n

Biden had been expected to sign\u00a0up to 17 executive orders right away, most of them overturning directives of his predecessor Donald Trump. He said in the Oval Office that additional orders would come \u201cover the next several days to week.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought there\u2019s no time to wait. Get to work immedia<\/a>tely,\u201d said Biden next to a high stack of executive orders. \u201cThere\u2019s no time to start like today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to start by keeping the promises I made to the American people. There\u2019s a long way to go, these are just executive actions. They are important but we\u2019re going to need legislation for other things we\u2019re going to do,\u201d Biden told reporters.<\/p>\n

He also said that former President Trump left him a \u201cvery generous letter\u201d despite skipping\u00a0the inauguration\u00a0for a Wednesday\u00a0morning flight to Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president wrote a very generous letter. Because it was private, I will \u2014 won\u2019t talk about it until I talk to him. But it was generous,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n

The three orders didn\u2019t include Biden\u2019s vow to hastily repeal a ban on travel<\/a> that Trump imposed in 2017 on a group of predominately\u00a0Muslim countries, including Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen\u00a0that do not share security information with the U.S.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s press secretary Jen Psaki also has indicated\u00a0Biden will reimpose a COVID-19 travel ban\u00a0on Brazil, the UK countries in Europe\u2019s Schengen Zone. But that order also was not among the first. Trump\u2019s decision to lift Europe and Brazil travel restrictions would take effect next week.<\/p>\n

The mask order is \u201crequiring, as I said all along, where I have authority, mandating masks indoors and social distancing be kept on federal property and interstate commerce, etcetera,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second one I\u2019m signing here is the support for underserved communities\u2026 we\u2019re going to make sure we have some better equity equality as relates to how we treat people in health care and other things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThird\u2026. is a commitment I made that we\u2019re going to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord as of today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u00a0added,\u00a0\u201csome of the executive actions I\u2019m going to be signing today are going to help change the course of the COVID crisis, and we\u2019re going to combat climate change in a way that we haven\u2019t done so far, and advance racial equity in support of our underserved communities. We are going to rebuild our economy as well. And these are just all starting points.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
