Source: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/studio.glassnode.com\/metrics?a=BTC&amp;category&amp;m=supply.LiquidChange&amp;mAvg=0&amp;mMedian=0&amp;mScl=log&amp;pScl=log&amp;s=1554163200&amp;u=1610074799&amp;zoom\">Glassnode<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The data shows that Bitcoin\u2019s (BTC) liquid supply has consistently fallen over the last nine months, with liquid supply currently sitting at 21.3% and showing no signs of reversing.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin\u2019s increasingly illiquid supply could be bullish for its price, with new retail and institutional traders vying for an increasingly diminishing supply. Glassnode estimates that nearly 80% of the 18.6 million circulating Bitcoin are currently stored in \u201cilliquid\u201d wallets.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/insights.glassnode.com\/bitcoin-liquid-supply\/\">Glassnode<\/a>, a Bitcoin wallet is considered illiquid if less than 25% of the Bitcoin received has been transferred out across the entity\u2019s life. In contrast, to be deemed highly liquid, the majority of Bitcoin must be transferred back into circulation, with less than 25% of the inflows held onto.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-01\/d85f5937-76a8-4fa6-ad7e-3db953f27075.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Bitcoin liquidity supply. Their balances have also been dropping, with data from analytics firm <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoquant.com\/overview\/full\/247?window=day\">CryptoQuant<\/a> indicating exchanges\u2019 reserves have shrunk by 13.8% since July.<\/p>\n<p>Increasing institutional investment may be a significant force driving the depletion of Bitcoin\u2019s liquid supply, with wallet tracking service <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.org\/\">Bitcoin Treasuries<\/a> currently estimates that 33 institutional entities have accumulated more than 1.2 million BTC or 6.5% of Bitcoin\u2019s circulating supply.<\/p>\n<p>In the last few days, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/grayscale.co\/bitcoin-investment-trust\/#overview\">Grayscale<\/a> has increased its holdings by <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roximately 25,000 BTC with a portfolio of 641,523.7 BTC as of January 20, 2021. To put this in perspective, approximately 900 Bitcoin are minted each day. According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/studio.glassnode.com\/metrics?a=BTC&amp;category=Miners&amp;m=distribution.BalanceMinersSum&amp;s=1531682912&amp;u=1598486400&amp;zoom=\">Glassnode<\/a>, however, on average only one-third of those are actually being sent to exchanges since July 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/swissborg.com\/blog\/bitcoin-liquidity-crisis#:~:text=Data%20from%20research%20firm%20Glassnode,available%20for%20buying%20and%20selling.\">Data<\/a> from Investment firm SwissBorg shows that in the second half of 2020, institutional investors purchased on average more than 230% of the newly minted BTC. Adding in the purchases from PayPal and Square (along with the estimated amount of Bitcoin lost each day) demand could be running as high as 500% of the new supply.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today, the world\u2019s largest asset manager BlackRock filed with the SEC, listing Bitcoin Derivatives as a possible investment.
