First day on the job calls for two outfits.<\/p>\n

Vice President Kamala Harris joined the \u201cCelebrating America\u201d inauguration concert in front of the Lincoln Memorial, ditching her purple outfit for an all-black ensemble to introduce singer John Legend. The new VP, 56, wore a black blazer with silky lapels over a sequined cocktail dress by Sergio Hudson, Harper\u2019s Bazaar reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to be uplifted right now,\u201d the 36-year-old designer, who is based in Los Angeles, told Harper\u2019s. \u201cSo I said, what if we make her something sparkly?\u201d<\/p>\n

While the concert stream only showed her from the waist up, the silk tuxedo overcoat was floor-length and the dress \u2014 \u201ca pencil dress, long sleeves, with a strong shoulder,\u201d according to Hudson \u2014 reflected her style.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kept the silhouette very structured and tailored, because that\u2019s who the Vice President is,\u201d the designer, who is black, added. \u201cBut the liquid sequins give her glamour and shine, because her influence and the way she\u2019s broken barriers is a light for so many of us. She shines so we can\u00a0all\u00a0shine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harris also shined during her speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my honor to be here to stand on the shoulders of those who came before to speak to you tonight as your Vice President,\u201d she said. \u201cEven in dark times we not only dream, we do. We not only see who has been, we see what can be. We shoot for the moon and then we plant our flag on it. We are bold, fearless and ambitious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are undaunted in our belief that we shall overcome that we will rise up,\u201d she added. \u201cThis is American aspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former First Lady Michelle Obama wore Sergio Hudson earlier in the day for the inauguration while Harris chose Christopher John Rogers \u2014 a designer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.<\/p>\n
