“#How to Launch Google Assistant by Tapp<\/a>ing the Back of Your iPhone”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though iPhone has Siri, some iPhone owners prefer using Google Assistant for performing spoken-word tasks. With a feature called Back Tap available in iOS 14 and later on iPhone 8 and up, you can quickly launch \u201cHey Google\u201d by tapping the back of your phone. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

First, if you don\u2019t have it already, you\u2019ll need to install the Google Assistant app on your iPhone. It\u2019s a free download from the App Store<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll need to create an Apple shortcut to launch Google Assistant with a \u201cHey Google\u201d query. To do so, launch the Shortcuts app. If you can\u2019t find it, swipe down from the middle of your iPhone\u2019s screen with one finger and type \u201cShortcuts,\u201d then tap the \u201cShortcuts\u201d app icon that appears.<\/p>\n

Once Shortcuts opens, tap \u201cMy Shortcuts\u201d at the bottom of the screen, then select \u201cAll Shortcuts.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the \u201cAll Shortcuts\u201d page, tap the plus button (+) in the upper-right corner of the screen.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll see a screen that says \u201cNew Shortcut.\u201d Before we do anything else, we\u2019re going to rename the shortcut something useful. Tap the ellipses button (three dots in a circle).<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

When the \u201cDetails\u201d panel appears, tap the \u201cShortcut Name\u201d text area and type \u201cLaunch Google Assistant.\u201d Then tap \u201cDone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Type<\/p>\n

After that, we\u2019ll need to add an action that will make our new shortcut launch Google Assistant. Tap \u201cAdd Action.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the actions panel that appears, search for \u201cHey Google,\u201d then tap the \u201cHey Google\u201d result in the list.<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

After that, you\u2019ll see an overview of your new shortcut, which includes only one action. Very simple. Turn off \u201cShow When Run\u201d with the switch, then tap \u201cDone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, we\u2019ll need to configure Back Tap to launch this new shortcut that we just created. Exit Shortcuts and launch Settings.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

In Settings, navigate to Accessibility > Touch, then select \u201cBack Tap.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

In \u201cBack Tap\u201d settings, decide whether two or three taps will launch the Google Assistant shortcut. Select the option you\u2019d prefer.<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll see a list of actions that you can trigger with Back Tap (some of which may be worth exploring later). Scroll down until you get to the \u201cShortcuts\u201d section. In the list, select \u201cLaunch Google Assistant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, exit Settings, then tap on the back of your phone two or three times (depending on which option you selected). Google Assistant will launch, and it will automatically be listening for a voice command.<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve noticed that after you launch Google Assistant the first time, it usually listens for voice input automatically. But the next time that you launch it, it might not be listening automatically. This is possibly a bug that might be fixed in a future release of Google Assistant or Shortcuts. If it happens, tap the microphone icon at the bottom of the Google Assistant screen and voice a command. Or, if you force quit Google Assistant with the app switcher, it will usually be ready to receive a voice command automatically the next time you launch it. Have fun!<\/p>\n
