Gabrielle Union is one feisty woman. She is not afraid to be a trailblazer, and to speak her mind, even if it makes people uncomfortable. As my guest on this week\u2019s \u201cRenaissance Man\u201d podcast, she started dishing out some shade that might make fans of \u201cFriends\u201d squirm. <\/p>\n

After starring in \u201cBring It On\u201d and \u201c10 Things I Hate About You,\u201d Gabby app<\/a>eared on a Season 7 episode in 2001 as new neighbor Kristen, who was being pursued by both Joey and Ross. When I asked her about the experience, she said it was \u201cjust a gig,\u201d even though it turned out she was the first African American love interest on the hit show \u2014 \u201cthe Rosa Parks of Must See TV,\u201d she joked. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was aware that it was a popular show, but it just wasn\u2019t poplar with anyone that I personally was friends with,\u201d she told me. \u201cWe were watching \u2018Living Single,\u2019 we were over on Fox \u2026 I think \u2018Friends\u2019 was the white version of \u2018Living Single.\u2019 You know what I mean? About a group of friends in New York, and actually \u2018Living Single\u2019 was first, so \u2018Friends\u2019 came after that. I believe it was the success of \u2018Living Single\u2019 that spawned \u2018Friends,\u2019 not the other way around.\u201d<\/p>\n

I always joked that \u201cFriends\u201d was the white \u201cMartin,\u201d and while both our views are viable, I will defer to her because one of us was on the show and it certainly wasn\u2019t me. <\/p>\n

Personally my favorite Gabby role was Syd in \u201cBad Boys II.\u201d Her new show \u201cL.A.\u2019s Finest\u201d is a spinoff of that movie. She plays a cop alongside Jessica Alba and has a lot of saucy sex scenes, which brought me to my next burning question. Married to retired basketball great Dwyane Wade, she is one half of a very visible power couple. So how does he deal with her sex scenes?<\/p>\n
