Last year obliterated movie release date plans, and as we begin 2021 there\u2019s still some question of what films will open when \u2013 and where. For now, the majority of the studios are holding out hope for the return of theatrical releases \u2013 especially Disney. Sure, they have streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, but they\u2019re not ready to abandon the theatrical experience just yet.<\/p>\n

Case in point: Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures, formerly Fox Searchlight, has released a line-up of new theatrical release dates.\u00a0The new Searchlight Pictures release dates include the horror flick\u00a0The Night House<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0The Eyes of Tammy Faye<\/em><\/strong> with\u00a0Jessica Chastain<\/strong> and Andrew Garfield<\/strong>, the Guillermo del Toro<\/strong>-produced\u00a0Antlers<\/em><\/strong>, and the Guillermo del Toro-directed\u00a0Nightmare Alley<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Night House<\/em>, a horror film directed by David Bruckner<\/strong> and starring\u00a0Rebecca Hall<\/strong>, Sarah Goldberg<\/strong>, Evan Jonigkeit<\/strong>, Stacy Martin<\/strong>, and Vondie Curtis Hall<\/strong>, will arrive in theaters on July 16, 2021<\/strong>. The film follows \u201ca widow (Rebecca Hall) who begins to uncover her recently deceased husband\u2019s disturbing secrets.\u201d I caught\u00a0The Night House<\/em> at Sundance in 2020, and found it very effective despite some messy storytelling. I\u2019m kind of surprised Searchlight is gung-ho on a theatrical release for this, as it seems like the small type of horror movie destined for streaming.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s\u00a0The Eyes of Tammy Faye<\/em>, the latest from\u00a0Michael Showalter<\/strong>. That will hit theaters on September 24, 2021<\/strong>, with a cast that includes\u00a0Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Cherry Jones<\/strong>, Fredric Lehne<\/strong>, Mark Wystrach<\/strong>, Sam Jaeger<\/strong>, Gabriel Olds<\/strong>, and Vincent D\u2019Onofrio<\/strong>. The movie is billed as \u201can intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world\u2019s largest religious broadcasting network and theme<\/a> park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn\u2019t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Antlers<\/em>, a horror film directed by Scott Cooper<\/strong> and produced by Guillermo del Toro, was supposed to open in theaters on April 17, 2020. Then it got moved to February 2021. Now it has a new date: October 29, 2021<\/strong>. Starring\u00a0Keri Russell<\/strong>, Jesse Plemons<\/strong>, Jeremy T. Thomas<\/strong>, Graham Greene<\/strong>, Scott Haze<\/strong>, Rory Cochrane<\/strong>, and Amy Madigan<\/strong>,\u00a0Antlers\u00a0<\/em>follows \u201ca middle-school teacher (Keri Russell) and her sheriff brother (Jesse Plemons)\u201d who \u201cbecome embroiled with her enigmatic student (Jeremy T. Thomas) whose dark secrets lead to terrifying encounters with a legendary ancestral creature who came before them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally,\u00a0Nightmare Alley<\/em>, Guillermo del Toro\u2019s first feature film since he won the Oscar for\u00a0The Shape of Water<\/em>, is set to open in theaters on December 3, 202<\/strong>1.\u00a0Nightmare Alley<\/em> follows \u201can ambitious young carny (Bradley Cooper<\/strong>) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words\u201d who \u201chooks up with a female psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett<\/strong>) who is even more dangerous than he is.\u201d In addition to Cooper and Blanchett, the stacked cast features Toni Collette<\/strong>, Willem Dafoe<\/strong>, Richard Jenkins<\/strong>, Rooney Mara<\/strong>, Ron Perlman<\/strong>, Mary Steenburgen<\/strong>, David Strathairn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
