The man who died in a Queens house fire Wednesday lived alone with his dog \u2014 who was rescued during the late-night blaze, according to neighbors.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old man \u2014 whose name The Post is withholding pending family notification \u2014 was killed when flames ripped through his two-story attached home at 257-54 148th Ave. in Rosedale, according to officials and neighbors.<\/p>\n

The man was found lying face-up on the kitchen floor, the sources said. He was pronounced dead on scene.<\/p>\n

Peter Lugay, 62, a construction worker who lives in the basement and is part of the family that owns the building, said the victim was a dental assistant working at Bellevue Hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a loner, very quiet, reserved,\u201d Lugay said. \u201cI have never seen anyone come to see him. He would be there but you\u2019ll never know he was there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The people on the first floor of the building heard the man \u201cbawling\u201d as the fire raged, Lugay said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard stamping and commotion,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t know it was a fire. I came outside to look\u2026 I saw a huge flame coming out of the [second floor] window. It was a big orange flame coming out of the window and shooting up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fire department rescued the man\u2019s dog, a Chihuahua named Biggie, according to Lugay.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel so sad for the man,\u201d Lugay said. \u201cI am trying to figure out how he didn\u2019t get out, but his dog got out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neighbor Carl Patterson said the news<\/a> of the man\u2019s death \u201churt [his] heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to walk back in the house once they told me he\u2019s dead,\u201d Patterson said. \u201cI asked about him and his dog. They said the dog made it but he didn\u2019t. I heard that instead of getting out, he tried to put [the fire] out himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis dog used to play with my dog,\u201d he recalled. \u201cWhen his dog saw my dog, he\u2019d start barking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nigel Edwards, also part of the family that owns the home, said he was in bed when he heard \u201cshouting, knocking and stomping.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother woke me up. He was saying, \u2018Oh, there is a fire, there is a fire,\u2019\u201d Edwards said. \u201cHe was frantic. I couldn\u2019t understand what he was saying. Then I went outside and I saw the flame and I realized there was a fire and it was serious.\u201d<\/p>\n

His brother also ran outside, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a lady in the street and my brother was shouting to her, \u2018Call 911, call 911,\u2019\u201d Edwards said. \u201cMy brother was shouting, \u2018He is dead, he is dead.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t hang out with him but we come into contact, so what happ<\/a>ened to him is such a sad situation,\u201d he added. \u201cTo see something like that happen is traumatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blaze was placed under control around 12:35 a.m., the FDNY said. A dozen units responded with 60 firefighters. No one else was hurt.<\/p>\n

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Thursday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
