\nThe\u00a0Ben Affleck<\/strong> and\u00a0Ana de Armas<\/strong> breakup has been more than a little confusing.<\/p>\n

First the word we were hearing was just that the two were completely on the same page, having chosen together to consciously uncouple because their lives were moving in different directions.<\/p>\n

Not that we ever buy that mutual breakup<\/em> line, but this one has been a little more elusive than usual. At first we heard that the differences the couple had were about lifestyle: at just 32 years old and with her star on the rise, the Knives Out<\/em> star wanted to live life to the fullest and do lots of travel<\/a>ing. But Ben, despite being a movie star, is also a 48-year-old divorced father-of-three \u2014 and too much of a family man to be able to leave his kids alone for long.<\/p>\n

Then another source claimed the age difference played out in a another way \u2014 they said Ana wanted to get married and have kids, the whole shebang, but that the Justice League<\/em> star wasn\u2019t ready to do all that again.<\/p>\n

These are two very different portraits of Ana. And while both\u00a0could<\/em> be true \u2014 people are complicated \u2014 they feel way too far apart for us.<\/p>\n

Well, the latest info we\u2019re hearing makes things even more complicated. According to a source speaking to\u00a0E! News<\/a><\/em> on Wednesday evening, this isn\u2019t even the first time BenAna have broken up! The insider claims:<\/p>\n

\u201cThey took time apart, but found a way to get back together.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When was that? It feels like we saw them on their dog walks all the time throughout last year \u2014 but there was definitely a gap when we didn\u2019t. Looking back on it, they were staying rather low-key throughout September and October. Is it possible they were on a break?<\/p>\n

We know they were back together by November, however, as they spent Thanksgiving together with Ben\u2019s kids. But by Christmas this source says they were on the outs for the\u00a0second<\/em> time:<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter spending the [December] holidays apart they both agreed that moving on was for the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hmm.<\/p>\n

Does that mean there\u2019s more of a chance this breakup could be a temporary setback? Maybe\u00a0less<\/em> \u2014 because they got the trial breakup out of their system already?<\/p>\n

This insider definitely leans toward the earlier reports, that Ana \u201cdidn\u2019t want to be tied down\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quarantine period was unique because they had down time and really got to know each other spending time at home. Once things started opening back up and work picked up, things started to change. Ana decided she doesn\u2019t want to live in L.A. She didn\u2019t want to be tied down. Their lifestyles are very different and they are in different places.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Now, says the source, the two are back to being \u201cvery busy with their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s still the matter of Ben very publicly throwing out that cardboard cutout of Ana. We mean\u2026 he could have cut it up, folded it, put it in a garbage bag before taking it out the street. It seemed to us to be a pretty clear message for anyone watching just where the relationship was.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless other sources still contend the former couple are\u00a0keen to \u201cstill maintain some type of friendship.\u201d An insider told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/em> on Wednesday:<\/p>\n

\u201cBen and Ana were so close to each other. They have their issues, but still want to remain on good terms and keep a friendship.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A source told People<\/em> the same thing, claiming:<\/p>\n

\u201cBen and Ana\u2019s friendship has not ended. They still talk regularly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Really?!<\/em> What did she have to say about that literal dumping? We mean, the man threw her away in effigy! Ah, to be a fly on the wall for that \u201camicable\u201d phone convo. LOLz!<\/p>\n

People<\/em>\u2018s source also noted that Ben \u201ccontinues to work on himself\u201d post-breakup.<\/p>\n

Thus far we\u2019ve seen some of that work seems to be towards losing weight. The man looks absolutely gaunt in the most recent pics we\u2019ve seen. We mean, not trying to judge, but he\u00a0looks<\/em> like someone devastated by a breakup.<\/p>\n
