Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others on the left are pushing for a \u201c9\/11-type\u201d commission to probe the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol. But it sounds like they really want a politicized panel looking to make hay of the assault.<\/p>\n

It would be great to have a truly neutral probe of what went wrong that day \u2014 one that all Americans could trust to dig up and share all the facts. <\/p>\n

But the 9\/11 attacks are a loaded and ludicrous analogy to the Capitol chaos. The only real similarity is that each was a shock \u2014 an event no Americans expected to ever see. But the scale of the Jan. 6 assault was far smaller than the horrors of 9\/11.<\/p>\n

Worse, Pelosi and Hillary Clinton app<\/a>ear to want to probe, for the umpteenth time, the possibility of Trump-Russia collusion behind the turmoil.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is strong interest in a 9\/11-type outside commission\u201d to review the Capitol rioting, Pelosi said Friday. She reaffirmed that in a weekend podcast with Clinton, who added that she hopes to find out who former President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cbeholden to, who pulls his strings.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to see his phone records to see whether he was talking to Putin the day that the insurgents invaded our Capitol,\u201d huffed Clinton.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll roads lead to Putin,\u201d Pelosi responded. No, they don\u2019t \u2014 not then and not now.<\/p>\n

The FBI, the House and the Senate all searched for collusion and found none. Special Counsel Robert Mueller spent years and came up empty. Yet Pelosi and Clinton \u2014 and others \u2014 are still harping on it as if there were legitimate evidence behind the theory.<\/p>\n

And nothing suggests a foreign role in the Jan. 6 attack: Sadly, modern Americans are capable of such madness all by themselves. Nor did the assault ever have any chance of stopping Joe Biden from becoming president. <\/p>\n

Yes, it\u2019s important to identify the roots of the Capitol invasion as well as who was involved and how and why security failed so badly. But all evidence to date suggests it was no vast conspiracy \u00e0 la 9\/11 but something more like a tragedy of errors. <\/p>\n

If the nation is to move beyond Trump-era division, Democrats need to quit the conspiracy theories.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
