Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointments when new stock didn\u2019t come in this week.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at where New York\u2019s vaccination efforts stand now, and how they went off track.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_are_coronavirus_vaccination_appointments_being_scrapped_in_New_York\"><\/span><strong>Why are coronavirus vaccination appointments being scrapped in New York?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At least 22,000 New Yorkers had their appointments to receive the first dose of the two-dose vaccine between Thursday and Sunday pushed back because the city no longer has sufficient supplies of the shots on hand to match the demand \u2014 and a shipment of doses expected from Moderna this week were delayed. <\/p>\n<p>Those appointments were made through 15 city Health Department hubs. <\/p>\n<p>Appointments made through the city public hospital system by the larger shortage are also being affected, as are those in private hospitals and upstate. Buffalo\u2019s Erie County <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ECDOH\/status\/1351965012437458950\">has also been cancelling<\/a> planned shots. <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_are_supplies_of_the_coronavirus_vaccine_running_low_in_New_York\"><\/span><strong>Why are supplies of the coronavirus vaccine running low in New York?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Part of the issue is a delay in deliveries from Moderna \u2014 one of two manufacturers of a coronavirus vaccine \u2014 for which city officials are still seeking an explanation.<\/p>\n<p>But even if everything were running smoothly on the manufacturers\u2019 end, the federal government currently only allots New York state about 250,000 doses of the vaccine per week, excluding those headed to the federally-run nursing home inoculation program.<\/p>\n<p>The feds have pointed to the initially slow and complicated rollout of vaccines in New York, but the city and state have dramatically expanded the number of people eligible for the shots and the number of sites to receive them \u2014 and say the supply coming in has not increased to match that. <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Can_I_still_get_a_coronavirus_vaccine_in_New_York\"><\/span><strong>Can I still get a coronavirus vaccine in New York?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can still attempt to find coveted vaccine appointments at public and private clinics <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vaccinefinder.nyc.gov\/\">via the city<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov\/\">state online portals<\/a>, though they appear to be few and far between and get snapped up fast. <\/p>\n<p>The city, state and various clinics have their own registration process.<\/p>\n<p>New York City residents can book appointments at any state-run site. <\/p>\n<p>If you had a first-dose appointment that was canceled due to the Moderna shortage, the city has rescheduled them for next week. <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_roles_have_the_city_and_state_had_in_the_breakdown\"><\/span><strong>What roles have the city and state had in the breakdown?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Highly restrictive state rules on who could and could not receive the vaccine initially led to many doses sitting on ice for weeks at the start of the rollout.<\/p>\n<p>The city, meanwhile, released a labyrinthine online registration system \u2014 particularly baffling seniors, who are among those most at risk of the coronavirus \u2014 and dragged its feet in getting distribution centers up and running.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
