By sucking up advertising dollars, the Internet devastated traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>papers that treated opinion \u201clike a volatile substance\u201d to be \u201cfenced off from \u2018factual\u2019 reporting,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/journalism-advocacy-over-reporting\">Martin Gurri argues at City Journal<\/a>. That prompted a switch \u201cled by The New York Times\u201d that \u201csought to squeeze revenue from digital subscribers lured behind a paywall,\u201d which also \u201centailed a wrenching pivot from a journalism of fact to a \u2018post-journalism\u2019 of opinion\u201d \u2014 a term coined by media scholar Andrey Mir. \u201cRather than news, the paper began to sell what was, in effect, a creed, an agenda, to a congregation of like-minded souls.\u201d The result is a journalism that aims \u201cto commodify polarization and threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cancel-culture watch: Censorious Imprints<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Joe Biden is calling for unity, but not everyone is ready to kiss and make up,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2021\/01\/21\/no-book-deals-for-traitors\/\">Kat Rosenfield archly notes at Reason<\/a>. The \u201cquest to hold members of the Trump administration accountable has resulted in a remarkable document\u201d originally titled \u201cNo Book Deals for Traitors.\u201d More than 500 people in publishing have signed the letter insisting Team Trump alumni be banned from \u201cour beloved publishing houses.\u201d It even draws a comparison to \u201cSon of Sam\u201d laws \u201cthat bar convicted felons from profiting off their crimes.\u201d Yet it\u2019s \u201cfoolish\u201d and \u201cdangerous\u201d for \u201cthose who never want to see another Trump in the White House\u201d to contend we \u201chave nothing to learn from the people who tried, and failed, to make it work the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservative: So Much For Unity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hours after making \u201can impassioned call for unity\u201d in his inaugural \u00adaddress, President Biden \u201cbroke well-established precedents to fire a top Labor Department official at the behest of his union allies,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/within-hours-of-calling-for-unity-biden-smashes-norms-to-reward-big-labor\">reports the Washington Examiner\u2019s Philip Klein<\/a>. Unions had been pushing Biden to prematurely \u201coust\u201d Peter Robb, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> counsel of the National Labor \u00adRelations Board, which \u201cplays an influential role in enforcing labor law through prosecution and settlements.\u201d The counsel is typically \u201conly \u00adreplaced upon expiration of a term,\u201d and his brusque dismissal \u201cmay be an early sign of how Biden intends to govern \u2014 speaking publicly in lofty tones about unity, while out of the public eye, he smashes norms to further left-wing policy goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foreign desk: Biden\u2019s First Blunder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Biden and his team have thus far eased concerns \u201cthat the US will rush into negotiations to re-enter the flawed 2015 nuclear deal with Iran,\u201d but \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointing Robert Malley as special envoy to Iran could change that,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2021-01-21\/biden-s-first-foreign-policy-blunder-could-be-on-iran\">worries Bloomberg Opinion\u2019s Eli Lake<\/a>. Malley \u201cseems to believe that engagement with rogues is the only way to tame them,\u201d and he would likely not seek a stronger deal as others on Team Biden have recommended. Twelve former Iranian hostages and human-rights activists argued in a letter that Malley\u2019s appointment \u201cwould send a chilling signal to the dictatorship in Iran that the United States is solely focused on re-entering the Iran nuclear deal and ignoring its regional terror and domestic\u201d rights abuses. Since Biden has expressed support for \u201ctargeted sanctions to punish\u201d Ayatollah Khamenei\u2019s regime, it would undermine the cause \u201cif the administration\u2019s envoy to Iran believes no Iranian leader could ever agree to stop making war on its neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Libertarian: Kudos to Liberty-Minded Progs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the riots on the US Capitol, 10 \u201cprogressive members of the US House of Representatives have declared that national-security powers should not be expanded, nor civil liberties curtailed,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/ten-democrats-response-capitol-attack-must-not-roll-back-civil-liberties\">Walter Olson cheers at Cato.org<\/a>. In a letter, the lawmakers write that expanding national-security and surveillance powers \u201chas often been our country\u2019s reaction to horrific acts of violence,\u201d but they believe government powers are already too broad and so more shouldn\u2019t be given. Olson agrees: While \u201cno one should try to downplay the seriousness of the attack,\u201d \u201cputting new powers in the hands of the government .\u2009.\u2009. after a violent outrage\u201d is a road we\u2019ve already walked before.
