\n Mayor Bill de Blasio said police have a \u201clegit reason\u201d to be frustrated with the criminal justice system \u2014 but the NYPD reforms that led to a Bronx precinct commander to retire were the right ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a problem with the court system not working\u2026 we have the problem of the parole system and individuals coming out of state,\u201d Hizzoner said during his daily press conference Friday morning. \u201cThere is a legit reason for frustration on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mayor\u2019s comment comes just hours before Deputy Inspector Richard Brea, the 46 Precinct commander, is set to walk away from the NYPD after nearly three decades over the department\u2019s lack of guidance over the police reforms.<\/p>\n

The Bronx commander wanted direction on how to combat gun violence and drugs without the anti-crime unit, which was broken up last week.<\/p>\n

But the mayor brushed off any blowback among the NYPD of the recent changes in policing Gotham, such as disbanding the department\u2019s \u201caggressive\u201d anti-crime unit, and said more were on the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NYPD has a tremendous history of making adjustments,\u201d de Blasio said. \u201cAdjustments are being made as we speak. The choice on the anti-crime unit was the right one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a moment where there are a lot of challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brea had also griped about the department\u2019s response to the George Floyd demonstrations.<\/p>\n

Brea\u2019s union, the Captains Endowment Association, has also called for the end of a numbers-driven police strategy, CompStat, because pressured commanders to drum up the arrest.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
