This beauty queen thinks she\u2019s got what it takes to snatch the title of world\u2019s sexiest serial killer.<\/p>\n

Kanika Batra, a 26-year-old Australian pageant babe, is the last person you\u2019d expect to be an expert on\u00a0Ted Bundy, who was executed 32 years ago\u00a0on Jan. 24, 1989 for stalking, raping and mutilating women throughout a horrifying period in the 1970s.<\/p>\n

But the bronzed bombshell\u2019s fascination runs deep, leading her to pen a fictional novel, \u201cHoneytrap<\/a>,\u201d which reimagines Bundy\u2019s monstrous crimes with a twist. He has competition: a seductive female hotel heiress who moonlights as a mass murderer and develops a relationship with the \u201cLady Killer\u201d himself, stalking her own victims in a series<\/a> of similar perverse slayings that play out alongside Bundy\u2019s heinous history in 1974 Seattle.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really deranged,\u201d Batra tells The Post from Sydney, where she\u2019s been stuck during the pandemic. \u201cMy character is quite incredibly sadistic and a complete parallel to Ted Bundy. I was terrified re-reading it sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blue-eyed, curvaceous stunner \u2014 a finalist for Miss World Australia in 2018 and 2020 and placed in the top 10 for Miss Universe New Zealand 2019 \u2014 is well aware some critics will accuse her of exploiting real-life tragedies. She\u2019s OK with that.<\/p>\n

Sparing no grisly details, the thriller follows Maris \u2014 who is in med school despite having a large fortune at her disposal \u2014 and her nightly bloodlust amid drug benders and sex romps with both men and women.<\/p>\n

But for her murder sprees, it\u2019s solely \u201call-American men\u201d Maris is after. Batra\u2019s debut book is reminiscent of Bret Easton Ellis\u2019 \u201cAmerican Psycho\u201d \u2014 at one point, Maris listens to \u201cDream a Little Dream\u201d during a kill and often details her grooming regimen \u2014 as well as \u201cDexter,\u201d since Maris enjoys keeping murderous mementos, or \u201ctrophies,\u201d as she calls them, along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrying to construct a full-blown psychopath was difficult,\u201d said Batra.<\/p>\n

The deeply macabre story takes many twists and turns once Maris links up with Ted \u2014 will he kill her or succumb to the, well, \u201choneytrap?\u201d \u2014 and is jam-packed with nauseating details even a horror buff might find revolting. All this makes you wonder how a former child model-turned-beauty queen could conjure something so twisted.<\/p>\n

In between giggles, Batra, who is a coloratura soprano operatic singer, can converse with ease \u2014 and in a cheery tone, no less \u2014 on a slew of terrifying true crime topics including notorious butchers like Jeffrey Dahmer and Richard \u201cIceman\u201d Kuklinski, whom she finds \u201cso interesting because he didn\u2019t kill women or children \u2014 he\u2019s like an ethical killer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople don\u2019t expect it because they have this image in their minds of girls who do pageants being really stupid or vapid,\u201d said Batra, adding friends were also aghast she wrote something so deeply disturbing. \u201cIt\u2019s a shock to most people that I mainly compete in pageants as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The irony is not lost upon her that a voluptuous beauty queen like herself would dare pen a Bundy book, but the drop-dead-gorgeous model believes she would be spared by him since she\u2019s of Indian descent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also know I wouldn\u2019t be a victim because I\u2019m not white,\u201d she said of the slayer who targeted Caucasian coeds. \u201cThere\u2019s one layer of protection there for me. I\u2019m not his type. It\u2019s a blessing and a curse.\u201d<\/p>\n

She does think Bundy himself would be intrigued by her book, though.<\/p>\n

\u201cTed was the biggest narcissist on the planet and he would talk to anyone who would listen,\u201d she said, but noted Bundy famously never watched portrayals of himself in movies. \u201cI think he would be pretty happ<\/a>y even this far on that someone so interested would be doing years of research and writing such a detailed story about what he did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bundy particularly caught her attention, not because of his looks \u2014 an oft-debated reason to rationalize the mass fascination with him \u2014 but rather for his outlandish commentary while incarcerated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was watching a lot of documentaries about serial killers but nothing really fascinated me the way Ted Bundy did because he was such a contradiction of standpoints,\u201d she admitted. \u201cHe was pontificating about feminism, he talked about the rights for black people and it was just unbelievable he was on the side just mutilating, raping and killing women.\u201d<\/p>\n

Believe it or not, her choice to create her own female serial killer in \u201cHoneytrap\u201d was meant to show a new perspective, since she\u2019s \u201csick of how women are portrayed in the media<\/a> as soft and pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen don\u2019t tend to kill men, they tend to kill children and animals because they\u2019re smaller and weaker,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I wanted to show an act of feminism in a way that a woman is able to take down a man twice her size and not prey on the weak and vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her personal quest, though, was to attempt to crack Bundy\u2019s motive \u2014 \u201cI like to solve puzzles,\u201d she said \u2014 for committing such appalling crimes, a complex endeavor she researched by contacting Dr. Robert D. Keppel, the homicide investigator who tracked Bundy for 15 years, Kathleen McChesney, one of few female investigators on the case, and Ann Rule, a friend of Bundy\u2019s who went on to pen true crime books like \u201cThe Stranger Beside Me<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can general<\/a>ly make sense of most murders as to what the motive is, but the dichotomy of his personality is something that really caught my attention,\u201d she said, adding that she also spoke with a neurobiologist who studied Bundy\u2019s brain and Dr. Dorothy Lewis, his psychiatrist whom he kissed goodbye before his execution<\/a>. \u201cHe was really hard to read.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new author even wound up contacting victims, including Carol DaRonch, who narrowly escaped a brutal 1974 attack in a shopping mall parking lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people were against [my book] including the families of the victims,\u201d Batra said.<\/p>\n

But DaRonch had one concern: That Bundy not be put on a pedestal.<\/p>\n

\u201c[DaRonch] was absolutely terrified and was traumatized for years and years after that,\u201d Batra said of the survivor. \u201cShe did want to talk about her story, she just wanted to make sure I wasn\u2019t glorifying Ted Bundy, which a lot of people do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wendy Patrick<\/a>, a career prosecutor at a California District Attorney\u2019s Office, told The Post she\u2019s prosecuted \u201cmany charismatic criminals\u201d over the years and Bundy\u2019s \u201calluring celebrity persona\u201d is \u201cdevastating to the surviving family of victims.\u201d<\/p>\n

An author herself<\/a>, Patrick said many serial killers \u201chave been glamorized in the media \u2014 usually in connection with documentaries or books about their lives. The goal is usually not to celebrate but educate.\u201d<\/p>\n

While this \u201cglamorizing\u201d is a way to portray \u201cthe relational dynamics that facilitated their lawbreaking and escaping detection,\u201d Patrick said \u201cthe end result is often severely re-traumatizing to the families and communities impacted by the carnage they left behind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another obstacle for Batra: Since her work is fiction, but still weaves in some real-life events from Bundy, she had to keep it historically accurate \u2014 mostly to appease fanatics.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of Bundy fans who are reading it and I didn\u2019t want to be attacked for ten years so I made sure everything was very, very historically accurate,\u201d she said, pointing to events at Lake Sammamish, Bundy\u2019s hunting grounds, in the first few chapters. \u201cI just swapped out some names.\u201d<\/p>\n

While she spent hundreds of hours reading and listening to Bundy interviews from Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth\u2019s tapes (which became Netflix series \u201cTed Bundy: Conversations with a Killer\u201d), watching \u201cLaw & Order: SVU\u201d and other deep dives into homicidal history, she sometimes found it hard to sleep. So she never wrote before bed \u2014 \u201cI would never write in the evening. It would freak me out too much.\u201d \u2014 and would often turn to \u201cSeinfeld\u201d to cope.<\/p>\n

\u201cJerry [Seinfeld] could make you feel better \u2014 or George [Costanza]. George is always around to make you feel better,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s since moved onto her next macabre topic for a book, convicted pedo perv Jeffrey Epstein, and is planning a move to New York once pandemic restrictions ease up. Later this year, she\u2019ll also be competing in Miss Universe Australia 2021 \u2014 she finds out if she\u2019s been chosen in February \u2014 and will likely have to broach the topic in her pageant circle, where her affinity for serial killer research is a secret.<\/p>\n

But should true crime come up in questions from pageant judges, Batra will be ready.<\/p>\n
