Some hot-and-heavy couples are torn apart when September interrupts their summer fling. For Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, it\u2019s a case of reality ruining their pandemic love affair.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quarantine was unique because they had downtime and \u00adreally got to know each other spending time at home,\u201d a source who knows Affleck and de Armas told The Post. \u201cBut once work picked up, things started to change.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Armas just signed on for the film \u201cThe Gray Man,\u201d alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, while Affleck will next star in \u00adGeorge Clooney\u2019s adaptation of the book \u201cThe Tender Bar.\u201d<\/p>\n

After months of loved-up lockdown \u2014 with PDA-filled dog walks and coffee runs in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood \u2014 it was reported this week that the two had called it quits.<\/p>\n

Reps for Affleck and de Armas declined to comment.<\/p>\n

Rumors had first swirled about a split when they didn\u2019t spend the holidays together and de Armas went home to Havana, Cuba.<\/p>\n

For de Armas, LA is only a place for work. She owns a house in Cuba, where her family still lives and considers that her home, according to friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s here for work reasons; like all actors, she lives wherever work takes her,\u201d said one de Armas pal.<\/p>\n

\u201cAna decided she doesn\u2019t want to live in LA and Ben wants to be close to his family,\u201d said the source who knows both stars, of Affleck\u2019s three young children with ex Jennifer Garner. \u201cHis priority is to be rooted in LA. They are in different places [in their lives].\u201d<\/p>\n

There was also the issue that \u2014 as Page Six reported \u2014 de Armas, 32, wants to have children of her own, while, friends said, there is no way Affleck, 48, wants more kids.<\/p>\n

And merging with an established family is not always an easy task.<\/p>\n

\u201cAna is fabulous and the kids loved her. I think any setup is tough to be a person coming into a relationship like this,\u201d said the source who knows the couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why Ben and Lindsay broke up \u2014 his kids are always going to be a priority,\u201d the sources added of Affleck\u2019s romance with \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d producer Lindsay Shookus, whom he dated in 2017-2018 and again in 2019 after he went to rehab for alcohol abuse. (A rep for Shookus did not comment.)<\/p>\n

The Oscar winner has spoken openly about his sobriety battle.<\/p>\n

In February 2020 he told The New York Times: \u201cI started drinking every day. I\u2019d come home from work and I\u2019d start to drink and I\u2019d just sit there and drink until I passed out on the couch,\u201d admitting that a public relapse at a Halloween party in 2019 was embarrassing for him and his kids.<\/p>\n

But insiders also say that, despite his past substance-issues, Affleck is a devoted, involved father.<\/p>\n

They also say that Garner, who is described as a fiercely protective mom, app<\/a>roved of de Armas, as she seemed to keep Affleck on an even keel.<\/p>\n

Affleck and de Armas met on the set of the thriller \u201cDeep Water,\u201d which filmed in 2019 but has seen its release date pushed to summer 2021. They were spotted on a romantic getaway to Cuba in March 2020 before heading to Costa Rica and then \u00a0LA just before the first lockdown started.<\/p>\n

The pandemic helped them grow close quickly as a source close to them told The Post at the time: \u201cBen was due on set [of \u2018The Last Duel\u2019] .\u2009.\u2009. and Ana was meant to be on a world tour [for the James Bond film \u2018No Time to Die\u2019].<\/p>\n

\u201cTo get to spend so much time together is a real blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Armas was spotted in photos wearing what looked like an engagement ring but was quickly revealed as a prop for \u201cDeep Water.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Armas moved into the actor\u2019s Brentwood home and, in June, cheekily planted a cardboard cutout of herself on his lawn \u2014 reportedly as a way to troll paparazzi.<\/p>\n

This week, a masked man who resembled Affleck\u2019s actor brother, Casey Affleck, was seen throwing the cutout into a trash can. Casey denied it was him, but told \u201cEntertainment Tonight\u201d of the breakup:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is, I think that this year has been really hard on people in relationships .\u2009.\u2009. I think that Ana is just the sweetest, funniest, smartest, most charming person. I think she won\u2019t have any problems meeting somebody else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casey, who is divorced, added: \u201cAnd I\u2019ll be there to carry Ben through it, but I don\u2019t think he\u2019ll have any problems. My advice to them would be like, \u2018Yes, think long and hard about [the decision to break up], because quarantine is not fun if you\u2019re single.\u2019\u2009\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though de Armas has moved out and is said to be looking for a home-away-from-Cuba <\/a>of her own in West Hollywood, the source who knows her and Affleck thinks all hope might not be lost.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had a really solid relationship and are truly upset to have come to a place where they need to break up,\u201d the source said. \u201cThere is a lot of love there. They were real\u00adly good for each other and I think that will carry into a friendship.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
