{"id":161752,"date":"2021-01-24T06:02:34","date_gmt":"2021-01-24T03:02:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nyc-nursing-home-refused-to-give-rehab-patients-covid-19-vaccine-pol\/"},"modified":"2021-01-24T06:02:34","modified_gmt":"2021-01-24T03:02:34","slug":"nyc-nursing-home-refused-to-give-rehab-patients-covid-19-vaccine-pol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nyc-nursing-home-refused-to-give-rehab-patients-covid-19-vaccine-pol\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYC nursing home refused to give rehab patients COVID-19 vaccine: pol"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYC nursing home refused to give rehab patients COVID-19 vaccine: pol<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A Queens nursing home in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak withheld potentially lifesaving vaccines from rehab patients, leaving a city councilman\u2019s 96-year-old mother and others to catch the contagion.<\/p>\n<p>Dry Harbor Nursing Home in Middle Village \u2014 where 44 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Dec. 22 \u2014 vaccinated its long-term residents shortly before Christmas, but not patients admitted for short-term care after being discharged from hospitals, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/kevinryanphotography.smugmug.com\/Holden-hearing-clip\/n-47ZNsh\/i-P5cqh4F\/A\">Councilman Robert Holden told The Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Holden\u2019s mom, Anne, and others finally did get shots in a second vaccination round on Jan. 13, but it was \u201ctoo little, too late,\u201d the furious Queens Democrat said.<\/p>\n<p>Anne Holden, 96, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday and admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, where she remained on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf she had gotten the shot before Christmas, she would have been eligible to get the second shot in January. Downs for the New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But the state Health Department said the nursing home was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no state policy prioritizing long-term nursing-home residents over other residents,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Holden blasted Dry Harbor, where his mom was sent about four months ago to recover from injuries in a fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t make any sense to leave patients out. They\u2019re just as vulnerable as permanent residents,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s in the best interest of the nursing home to vaccinate everyone so there\u2019s not a spread.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holden said the nursing-home staff never said it lacked enough vaccine for everyone in the 360-bed facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Federal data show the home has been about 75 percent occupied over the past several weeks.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for CVS, which administered the jabs as part of a federal program to vaccinate nursing-home residents and staff, said there was no shortage of shots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no \u2018limit\u2019 at the first clinic \u2014 facilities taking part in the program provide us with a list for each visit, and we staff and supply accordingly,\u201d said spokesman T.J. Downs for the New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dry Harbor administrator Mark Solomon did not return messages at the nursing home on Saturday, and the facility could provide no other spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Cheryl Stone was dropping off belongings for her 86-year-old mother, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus on Jan. 20, days after she was discharged from NewYork-Presbyterian, where she was treated for a blood clot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t expect her to come here to get COVID,\u201d Stone said.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother, now asymptomatic, is receiving care on the fourth floor \u2014 where all the current coronavirus patients are housed.<\/p>\n<p>She has not been vaccinated, Stone said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not understanding if you\u2019re not letting the loved ones come in, how are they getting infected?\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only way they\u2019re getting infected is the staff or when somebody new comes in .\u2009.\u2009. It\u2019s dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointing. I\u2019m not happy about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Dry Harbor\u2019s website, 44 residents and 11 staffers have tested positive for COVID-19 from Dec. 22 to Jan. 22. Of those, 27 residents have tested positive since Jan. 5.<\/p>\n<p>Since the pandemic first reached the state in March, the state has recorded 34 suspected and confirmed coronavirus deaths at the home, most of them by May.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Early in the pandemic, Gov.
