{"id":161777,"date":"2021-01-23T16:08:55","date_gmt":"2021-01-23T13:08:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/larry-king-dead-at-87\/"},"modified":"2021-01-23T16:08:55","modified_gmt":"2021-01-23T13:08:55","slug":"larry-king-dead-at-87","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/larry-king-dead-at-87\/","title":{"rendered":"#Larry King dead at 87"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Larry King dead at 87<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Larry King, America\u2019s most iconic\u00a0interviewer, who smooched Marlon Brando on-air and even conducted Mideast peace talks during his eponymous CNN show, has died, his official <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> account <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kingsthings\/status\/1352960673978880000\">announced Saturday morning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The former CNN star died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The cause of death was coronavirus, his sixth wife Julia Alexander told The Post in a phone interview from her home in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI talked to him in the hospital this past week so I knew his time was short,\u201d Alexander said. \u201cHe was extremely weak. I just said Larry I am thinking about you. Everybody is rooting for you. He just couldn\u2019t even talk. He was really very weak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>King, 87, a multiple cancer survivor, had contracted coronavirus earlier this year, but it was not initially reported as a cause of death. In recent days he had <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared to be recovering, and was moved out of the ICU and breathing on his own.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander was married to King between 1989 and 1992. He interviewed every US president from Richard Nixon to Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The memorable moments \u2014 too numerous to count \u2014 ran the gamut from smooches with Marlon Brando to a live MIddle East Peace summit with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Jordan\u2019s King Hussein and Palestinian terror boss\u00a0Yasser Arafat. Do you know who I am?\u201d Seinfeld said before King attempted to shoehorn in a plug for the animated flick \u201cBee Movie,\u201d which Seinfeld produced.<\/p>\n<p>During his career he won two Peabody Awards, 10 CableACE awards\u00a0and was inducted into both the\u00a0National Radio Hall of Fame, and Broadcasters\u2019 Hall of Fame<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarry King was a Brooklyn boy who become a newsman who interviewed the newsmakers. He conducted over 50,000 interviews that informed Americans in a clear and plain way,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYGovCuomo\/status\/1352982994009649153\">Gov. Cuomo\u00a0said<\/a>. \u201cNew York sends condolences to his family and many friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>King\u2019s first interview as host of \u201cLarry King Live\u201d was Andrew Cuomo\u2019s father, Mario, who was then also serving as governor of New York. For years the program was the anchor of CNN\u2019s prime-time lineup and enjoyed sky-high ratings and a regular stream of A-listers banging down the door.<\/p>\n<p>At his CNN peak in the late \u201990s, King\u2019s show was averaging a million and a half viewers a night.<\/p>\n<p>King left the show in 2010 amid declining ratings as cable news audiences increasingly gravitated toward sharper partisan prime-time programming. King said the decision was his so that he could spend \u201cmore time for my wife and to get to the kids\u2019 little league <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s.\u201d The departure was messy, however, and he was at least partly shoved out the door by CNN bosses looking to shake up their lineup.<\/p>\n<p>In his final months,\u00a0the LaFayette HS alum\u2019s\u00a0life had been dominated by personal drama. After suffering a stroke in May, King became embroiled in a bitter divorce from his wife of more than two decades, Shawn Southwick King. Mango; Classmates.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Born Lawrence Harvey Zeiger, King grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and never lost his trademark accent. In 2012 the city landmarks commission briefly considered preserving his childhood home. He had a difficult upbringing. His father died from heart disease when King was just 9, forcing his family to rely on government assistance. He worked his way up from Florida radio stations in the 1950s and \u201960s,\u00a0eventually hosting his own national call-in show before moving to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe mourn the passing of our colleague Larry King,\u201d CNN President Jeff Zucker said in a statement. \u201cHis curiosity about the world propelled his award-winning career in broadcasting, but it was his generosity of spirit that drew the world to him. He declared bankruptcy in 1960 and then again in 1978. A 1971 bust for fraud upended his career for much of that decade. (The charges were dropped in 1972). He also spent lavishly on fine clothes and on fast cars. He was a gambler, too, often losing large sums to horse racing.<\/p>\n<p>Not all of King\u2019s former colleagues remembered him so fondly.
