{"id":161937,"date":"2021-01-24T02:12:36","date_gmt":"2021-01-23T23:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/doe-diversity-chief-in-charge-of-implicit-bias-training-leaves\/"},"modified":"2021-01-24T02:12:36","modified_gmt":"2021-01-23T23:12:36","slug":"doe-diversity-chief-in-charge-of-implicit-bias-training-leaves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/doe-diversity-chief-in-charge-of-implicit-bias-training-leaves\/","title":{"rendered":"#DOE diversity chief in charge of &#8216;implicit bias&#8217; training leaves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#DOE diversity chief in charge of &#8216;implicit bias&#8217; training leaves<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/01\/paul-forbes-doe-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Department of Education staffer who led\u00a0\u201cimplicit bias\u201d training for school faculty has left the job.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Forbes, executive director of Educational Equity, Anti-Bias and Diversity, tweeted last week that he was leaving the DOE after 25 years serving city schools.<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor Richard Carranza, who promoted Forbes to the post in November 2018, did not publicly announce Forbes\u2019 departure.<\/p>\n<p>DOE spokesman Nathaniel Styer would not say why Forbes was leaving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaul Forbes is a true champion for equity and we\u2019re grateful for the 25 years of service he gave to the students of our\u00a0city,\u201d Styer said. \u201cThe important work of expanding our equity programs in schools across the city will continue based on the strong foundation Paul established.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Officials are \u201cexploring options\u201d to replace Forbes, Styer said. <\/p>\n<p>Forbes did not return messages on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes, 47, tweeted he began working for the DOE as an intern in the Office of Community Relations under the since-defunct Board of Education at 110 Livingston St. in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>Before Carranza t<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed Forbes to work in his Office of Equity and Access, Forbes directed a program that worked with high schools to increase the number of black and Latino teens graduating high school career- and college-ready.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, he was director of Safety, Suspensions and Youth Development. <\/p>\n<p>Asked on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> whether he had retired, Forbes replied: \u201cNot retiring just yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forbes told others he didn\u2019t have another job. \u201cRight now, I don\u2019t have any plans per se. Just leaving\u2026gonna breathe for a minute then go from there,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes led the controversial \u201cimplicit bias\u201d sessions, which instructed DOE teachers and other staff how to recognize their subconscious prejudices and white privilege. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A former DOE administrator, Leslie Chislett, the fourth woman to sue Carranza for allegedly creating a hostile atmosphere for white employees, mentioned Forbes in her lawsuit against the DOE.<\/p>\n<p>Chislett quoted Forbes as a saying\u00a0he was unconcerned by mounting scrutiny of the department\u2019s practices \u201cbecause this chancellor truly has our back.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
