President Biden\u2019s pledge to distribute 100 million shots of COVID-19 vaccines in his first 100 days in office does not mean 100 million Americans will be vaccinated during that time, Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted Sunday.<\/p>\n

That volume of vaccinates will only see around 67 million people fully inoculated, because both current vaccines require two shots, he said on CBS\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cLet me clarify that because there was a little bit of an understanding. What we\u2019re talking about is 100 million shots in individuals,\u201d the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of a hundred days, you\u2019re going to have some people who will have gotten both shots, and some will still be on their first shots,\u201d Fauci added.<\/p>\n

Fauci had been confronted with a previous interview in which he told CBS: \u201cYou know, the goal that\u2019s been set, which I believe is entirely achievable, is to have a 100 million people vaccinated in the first 100 days.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked at the time whether that meant \u201cboth vaccines\u201d he had replied, \u201cPrimary and boost, yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s \u201c100 million\u201d goal has already come under fire for aiming too low \u2014 with data showing the country was already distributing more than 1 million shots a day when he took office. <\/p>\n

When asked last week why he didn\u2019t aim higher, he snapp<\/a>ed at a reporter: \u201cCome on, gimme a break, man! It\u2019s a good start.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CDC said it had administered more than 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the US as of Saturday.<\/p>\n

20 million more have been distributed, the agency said.<\/p>\n
