Human remains found in a car submerged in a Westchester County reservoir last week could be linked to the 1989 disapp<\/a>earance of a White Plains mom, according to a report. <\/p>\n

The grisly find at the Muscoot Reservoir is likely tied to the case of 40-year-old Brenda Kerber, a devotee of American Buddhist guru Frederick P. Lenz III, sources told lohud.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new details surfaced after police fished a car out of the Somers reservoir on Tuesday \u2014 a vehicle matching Kerber\u2019s 1982 Ford Granada station wagon, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

White Plains police have not released the identity of the remains found in the car, but said in a statement last week that the discovery prompted cops to reopen a 1989 case. <\/p>\n

They have not confirmed that it was Kerber\u2019s case. <\/p>\n

Kerber, a mother of two, had recently gone through a second divorce and was described by friends as distraught over the split, lohud said. <\/p>\n

An Oregon native, Kerber became obsessed with Lenz and his \u201cPathway to Enlightenment\u201d teachings and moved to New York to be closer to him.<\/p>\n

Lenz, the author of \u201cSurfing the Himalayas<\/a>\u201d and \u201cSnowboarding to Nirvana<\/a>,\u201d developed a cult following until his death in 1998 by apparent suicide. <\/p>\n

He taught enlightenment and required followers to pay $1,000 a month for his lectures.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe got involved with this religious group, and the first thing that they put across was to separate from their parents or their loved ones,\u201d Kerber\u2019s father, James Barratt, told reporters after his daughter\u2019s disappearance. \u201cI think he is a entrepreneur rather that a follower of God.\u201d <\/p>\n

Barratt and Kerber\u2019s mother, Dorotha Barratt-Knecht, have both since died. <\/p>\n

The car at the Muscoot Reservoir was found during an inspection by the city Department of Environmental Protection. The reservoir is part of the New York City water supply.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
