Mexico President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador announced Sunday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

L\u00f3pez Obrador, 67, said that he is receiving treatment for mild COVID-19 symptoms.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs always, I am optimistic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While undergoing treatment, Mexico\u2019s interior minister will conduct L\u00f3pez Obrador\u2019s normal morning news<\/a> briefings.<\/p>\n

But the president noted that he will participate in a scheduled Monday call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n

Mexico\u2019s government has said it wants to obtain 12 million doses of Russia\u2019s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, aiming to administer over 7 million doses before April.<\/p>\n

Over 149,000 people in Mexico have died of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic.<\/p>\n
