Netflix\u2019s hit fantasy show\u00a0The Witcher<\/em><\/strong> is getting a prequel series<\/a>, and that prequel has found its star.\u00a0Jodie Turner-Smith<\/strong> (Queen & Slim<\/em>) will lead the show, titled\u00a0The Witcher: Blood<\/em> Origin<\/em><\/strong>. Turner-Smith is playing\u00a0\u00c9ile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, in the series which is set\u00a01200 years before the events of\u00a0The Witcher<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes straight from Netflix:\u00a0Jodie Turner-Smith has joined the cast of\u00a0The Witcher: Blood Origin<\/em>, a\u00a0prequel series to The Witcher<\/em>. Netflix announced the series last summer, revealing it would be a six-part live-action show set before the events of\u00a0The Witcher<\/em>. Here\u2019s the official logline: \u201cSet in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time \u2013 the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal \u201cconjunction of the spheres,\u201d when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.\u201d
\nTurner-Smith will play \u201c\u00c9ile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, has left her clan and position as Queen\u2019s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.\u201d\u00a0Declan de Barra<\/strong> will act as executive producer and showrunner on the series, with Lauren Schmidt<\/strong> Hissrich also serving as executive producer.\u00a0Andrzej Sapkowski<\/strong> will serve as creative consultant on the series. Jason Brown<\/strong> and Sean Daniel<\/strong> from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski<\/strong> and Jarek Sawko<\/strong> from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers as well.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t watched\u00a0The Witcher<\/em> so all of this remains a bit mysterious to me, but the show was a big hit for Netflix, with Parrot Analytics reporting that the series was the third most \u201cin demand\u201d original streaming series in the US, behind Stranger Things<\/em> and The Mandalorian<\/em>. Netflix renewed\u00a0The Witcher<\/em> for a second season before season 1 even premiered. Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime this year. The show follows \u201cGeralt of Rivia, Crown Princess Ciri, and the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg at different points of time, exploring formative events that shaped their characters, before eventually merging into a single timeline detailing the invaders from Nilfgaard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turner-Smith\u2019s was recently seen in\u00a0Queen & Slim<\/em>, and her upcoming projects include\u00a0After Yang<\/em>, co-starring Colin Farrell, and\u00a0Without Remorse<\/em>, co-starring Michael B. Jordan. She\u2019s also set to play the title role in the three-part UK miniseries\u00a0Anne Boleyn<\/em>.<\/p>\n
