Google plans to turn some of its offices into COVID-19 vaccine clinics as part of its efforts to help people get their shots.<\/p>\n

The tech titan is working with health-care provider One Medical \u2014 which counts Google as one of its biggest investors and customers \u2014 to set up vaccination sites at Google buildings, parking lots and open spaces, CEO Sundar Pichai said Monday.<\/p>\n

The first sites will open in New York City, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area and Kirkland, Washington, a Seattle suburb, he said. Google said it plans to expand the clinics nationally while working with local officials to determine when they can open based on the availability of vaccines.<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting vaccines to billions of people won\u2019t be easy, but it\u2019s one of the most important problems we\u2019ll solve in our lifetimes,\u201d Pichai said in a blog post<\/a>. \u201cGoogle will continue to support in whatever way we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Google announced the effort alongside a $150 million initiative to help people find information about vaccines \u2014 especially those who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19, such as people of color and those in rural areas.<\/p>\n

The company said it will provide $100 million in advertising grants allowing nonprofits such as the CDC Foundation and the World Health Organization run public service announcements. Google will also invest $50 million to help public health agencies get vaccine info to \u201cunderserved communities,\u201d according to Pichai.<\/p>\n

To help Americans find vaccines, Google plans to show state and regional distribution info in its search engine and display vaccination locations in searches and Google Maps.<\/p>\n

\u201cSearches for \u2018vaccines near me\u2019 have increased 5x since the beginning of the year and we want to make sure we\u2019re providing locally relevant answers,\u201d Pichai wrote.<\/p>\n

Google shares were down about 0.8 percent at $1,876.56 as of 12:10 p.m. Monday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
