“#Conservative activist from NYC charged in Capitol riot<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A conservative activist from New York who made headlines over the summer for refusing to wear a mask on an American Airlines flight was arrested Monday in connection with the US Capitol riot.<\/p>\n

Brandon Straka, 44, was charged with impeding police during civil disorder, knowingly entering and remaining on restricted grounds and disorderly conduct, court documents show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A self-described \u201cformer liberal,\u201d\u00a0Straka is most famous for founding the\u00a0#WalkAway Campaign<\/a>\u00a0to encourage people to leave the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

FBI agents say that Straka \u2014 who spoke at a \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally the day before the Jan. 6 riot \u2014 was part of a mob of Trump supporters pushing toward a Capitol doorway during the siege.<\/p>\n

While the charging document doesn\u2019t say that Straka actually went into the building \u2014 it does cite a video he recorded in which he egged\u00a0rioters to force their way inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo! Go!\u201d Straka yelled, before saying \u201cI wanna try,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

As a Capitol police officer attempted to make his way through the mob with a riot shield over his head, Straka allegedly urged others to \u201cTake it away from him. .\u2009.\u2009. Take the shield! .\u2009.\u2009. Take it! Take it!\u201d<\/p>\n

The FBI says Straka was wearing the same coat he had on during the rally at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, the day before, in which he called the audience \u201cpatriots\u201d and repeatedly referred to a \u201crevolution.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStraka told the attendees to \u2018fight back\u2019 and ended by saying, \u2018We are sending a message to the Democrats, we are not going away, you\u2019ve got a problem!\u2019\u201d the court doc states.<\/p>\n

The FBI also cited several of Straka\u2019s tweets about the riot, including one app<\/a>earing to criticize people who were denying that they had been there.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso- be embarrassed & hide if you need to- but I was there,\u201d\u00a0he wrote on Jan. 6, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not Antifa at the Capitol. It was freedom loving Patriots who were DESPERATE to fight for the hope of our Republic\u2026 Everyone else can denounce them. I will not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Straka, who was arrested in Nebraska on Monday, didn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely return a request for comment.<\/p>\n

It was unclear whether he had an attorney.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
