Along with honoring the best that independent cinema has to offer, this year\u2019s Indie Spirit Awards have also introduced a television category, with several awards being handed out for the small screen.<\/p>\n<p>On the feature film side of things, <strong><em>Never Rarely Sometimes Always<\/em><\/strong> came out on top with seven total nominations across all categories. Coming up right behind it is the American family drama <strong><em>Minari<\/em><\/strong> with six nominations, followed by <strong><em>Nomadland<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom<\/em><\/strong>, each scoring five nominations overall. See the full list of 2021 Independent Spirit Awards nominations below.<span id=\"more-655400\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Never Rarely Sometimes Always<\/em> making a big show after debuting at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival is exactly the kind of thing you like to see from this independent cinema awards show. The film is a true indie with a harrowing story of a teenage girl forced to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> to New York City from Pennsylvania with her cousin in order to get an abortion. It\u2019s contemplative, incredibly well-acted, and as authentic as you can get.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><em>Minari<\/em> also has an impressive presence in the Indie Spirit Award nominations this year. In addition to the film being nominated as one of the contenders for Best Feature, lead actor <strong>Steven Yeun<\/strong> also earned a nomination, and both<strong> Yeri Han<\/strong> and <strong>Yuh-jung Youn<\/strong> earned supporting actress nominations. Director <strong>Lee Isaac Chung<\/strong> is also up for the directing category.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, rounding out the major nominees, we have <em>Nomadland<\/em> and<em> Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom<\/em>. While <em>Nomadland<\/em> hit across the spectrum with Best Feature, Best Director, Best Female Lead, Best Editing and Best Cinematography, <em>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom<\/em> earned a Best Feature nomination and four acting nominations for <strong>Chadwick Boseman<\/strong>, <strong>Viola Davis<\/strong>, <strong>Colman Domingo<\/strong>, and <strong>Glynn Turman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, in a strange turn, <em><strong>The Invisible Man<\/strong><\/em> was somehow nominated for Best Editing. It\u2019s not that the movie wouldn\u2019t be deserving of such a nomination for editing, but it\u2019s absolutely not an independent movie, so we\u2019re not really sure how it qualified.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the full list of 2021 Independent Spirit Awards nominations below, along with the announcement video, and tune in when the awards are handed out live on Thursday, <strong>April 22<\/strong> at 10:00 P.M.
