I wonder if anyone sat around playing the video game<\/a>\u00a0Borderlands<\/strong><\/em> when it debuted in 2009 and thought to themselves, \u201cMan, the guy who directed Hostel<\/em> should turn this into a movie that stars Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings<\/em> and that funny guy from those Seltzer\/Friedberg spoof films. And it\u2019d be great if it was written by the person who wrote Superhero Movie<\/em>.\u201d If you recall ever meeting such a dorm room Nostradamus, it might be smart to call him up and ask for suggestions for lotto numbers or stock market tips.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s true: Kevin Hart<\/strong>, who app<\/a>eared in Scary Movie 3 &<\/em>\u00a04<\/em>, Epic Movie<\/em>, Superhero Movie<\/em>, and Extreme Movie<\/em> before becoming one of the most famous stand-up comedia<\/a>ns in the world, will star in a Borderlands<\/em> movie alongside Cate Blanchett<\/strong> that will be written by Craig Mazin<\/strong> (Chernobyl<\/em>) and directed by Eli Roth<\/strong>. And it seems as if Hart will be stretching into unfamiliar territory as an actor with this role.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> confirms an initial report from The Illuminerdi<\/a> that Kevin Hart, who is better known these days for his roles in films like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle<\/em>, Ride Along<\/em>, and Central Intelligence<\/em>, will play Roland in the upcoming Borderlands<\/em> movie. The character is a skilled soldier, and interestingly, THR says this will be \u201ca more serious acting turn for the star\u201d than the typical quip-machine that he often portrays on the big screen.
\nRoland is one of the\u00a0four main playable characters from the first game, alongside Lilith, the character Cate Blanchett is playing. He\u2019s a traditional stoic action hero \u2013 he\u2019s basically the character that players would choose if they just wanted to shoot things real good. While the world of Borderlands<\/em> itself is very comedic, this seems like it could be a true departure toward something a bit more pared down for Hart, who normally plays every character like he just drank 40 cups of coffee.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be working with Kevin,\u201d Eli Roth said in a statement. \u201cBorderlands<\/em>\u00a0is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they\u2019ve never seen before. He\u2019s going to be an amazing Roland.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Borderlands<\/a><\/em> wiki<\/a>, Roland is \u201coriginally from the planet\u00a0Promethea\u00a0and is a former soldier of the\u00a0Crimson Lance, the highly trained private military of the\u00a0Atlas\u00a0corporation. He is proficient with all weapons, although he prefers\u00a0shotguns\u00a0and\u00a0combat rifles.\u201d<\/p>\n
