Black Americans are being vaccinated at significantly lower rates than white Americans \u2014 with some regions seeing gaps in coverage as large as four times lower, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

The disparity is app<\/a>arent in figures from a dozen states tracking COVID-19 vaccinations by race, Kaiser Health News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania has the most troubling numbers of all the states releasing data on the demographics.<\/p>\n

Only 0.3 percent of black Pennsylvanians have been vaccinated as of Jan. 14, while 1.2% of white people have received the shot, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

In Mississippi, only 18 percent of black residents have gotten the vaccine despite accounting for 38 percent of the state\u2019s population, according to the analysis.<\/p>\n

And Florida has administered shots to only 1.1 percent of black residents, compared to 3.1 percent of its white population.<\/p>\n

Experts said the data is concerning because black Americans are dying from the virus at higher rates than white people.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy concern now is if we don\u2019t vaccinate the population that\u2019s highest-risk, we\u2019re going to see even more disproportional deaths in Black and brown communities,\u201d Dr.\u00a0Fola\u00a0May, a UCLA physician, told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Both New York state and the Big Apple have yet to release any data on the racial demographics of the people who have received the shot so far, despite growing calls from local lawmakers. <\/p>\n

A new survey released Monday showed that only 39 percent of black New York City residents plan to get the vaccine as soon as possible, compared to 78 percent of white respondents.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
