DJ Lina Bradford<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15899538\"><img alt=\"DJ Lina Bradford\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>DJ Lina Bradford<\/span><span>New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The New York nightlife legend, trans activist and former dancing DJ queen of Fire Island spins her signature mix of disco and house classics \u2014 and whatever else she pleases \u2014 in her IG Live sets on Fridays and Saturdays.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clivilles_and_Cole_%E2%80%9CA_Deeper_Love%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Clivill\u00e9s and Cole, \u201cA Deeper Love\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>That song always hits a chord. At the time that it came out [in 1991], it was really one of those bringing-together moments. As the house music turns you out on the dance floor, there\u2019s a message to it.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"George_Michael_%E2%80%9CFreedom_90%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>George Michael, \u201cFreedom! \u201990\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>That was during the supermodel moment, and it made you feel like you could do runway till the end of the day. Junior [Vasquez] would pop that song on at Sound Factory at 9 or 10 o\u2019clock in the morning, the flashlights were on, and you just felt brand-new!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ultra_Nate_%E2%80%9CFree%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Ultra Nat\u00e9, \u201cFree\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>She worked the hamstrings of everyone when this song came out [in 1997]. It just told you that, \u201cGuess what? We got this.\u201d It showed how much we had progressed in the community. That song was speaking to the times. We were out more in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>. We were also showing the government and all of the powers that be that, \u201cWe\u2019re not taking it anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diana_Ross_%E2%80%9CIm_Coming_Out%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Diana Ross, \u201cI\u2019m Coming Out\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There\u2019s just so many significant turn-out moments in that song, and the fact that Miss Ross is singing it is everything. How it\u2019s done and how it\u2019s sold to you has everything to do with how it takes you there .\u2009.\u2009. I love seeing that all these youngsters are really living for disco. Any disco song is that moment of rainbows and Skittles.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Tracy_Young\"><\/span>2. Tracy Young<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15900114\"><img alt=\"Tracy Young\" data- data- height=\"450\" width=\"300\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Tracy Young<\/span><span>FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This veteran DJ \u2014 a onetime New Yorker now living in Miami \u2014 has worked behind the boards as well as behind the decks. In fact, she became the first woman to win the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording in January.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Madonna_%E2%80%9CI_Rise%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Madonna, \u201cI Rise\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Both the original and the remix \u2014 it\u2019s the one I won the Grammy for. That was Madonna\u2019s LGBTQ anthem last year. She wrote it for Stonewall 50 and WorldPride last year. I\u2019ve worked with Madonna for 25 years, and I credit her a lot for what she\u2019s done for the gay community.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cyndi_Lauper_%E2%80%9CTrue_Colors%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Cyndi Lauper, \u201cTrue Colors\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I did a new version of this a couple years ago that hasn\u2019t been released. I\u2019m gonna be playing it during my virtual Pride set [Saturday and Sunday on SiriusXM\u2019s Utopia, Channel 341]. I always <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciate a song in its original form, but I added some tempo so we could dance to it.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RuPaul_%E2%80%9CSupermodel_You_Better_Work%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>RuPaul, \u201cSupermodel (You Better Work)\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019m still playing this! He was signed to a label as an openly gay drag queen [in 1991], and that\u2019s such a huge part of our history \u2014 and what Pride truly is about. This coined the saying \u201cYou better work,\u201d so I had to mention my boy Ru. Ru was the original bitch.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Judy_Garland_%E2%80%9COver_the_Rainbow%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Judy Garland, \u201cOver the Rainbow\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Judy Garland was such a gay icon. Some of these younger kids, they may not know her. But you gotta give Judy Garland some props. I play versions of \u201cOver the Rainbow\u201d during Pride, but it\u2019s not Judy\u2019s voice. It\u2019s a beautiful, beautiful song.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Justin_Dawson\"><\/span>3. Justin Dawson<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15899548\"><img alt=\"Justin Dawson\" data- data- height=\"450\" width=\"300\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Justin Dawson<\/span><span>Brian Zak\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Brooklyn\u2019s DJ Dawson didn\u2019t let the quarantine keep him from clubbing in the virtual space, regularly throwing down beats for charity on Instagram Live. And he\u2019ll keep the party pumping this weekend at Furball (Saturday on Twitch\/Zoom) and a sunset Pride set (Sunday on IG).<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CeCe_Peniston_%E2%80%9CFinally%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>CeCe Peniston, \u201cFinally\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For me, it represents Pride because she\u2019s kind of describing a dream man, who happens to look exactly like me \u2014 a man with \u201cbrown cocoa skin and curly black hair.\u201d That really spoke to me, having that representation. Time kind of loses its significance. With Pride, we come together to reflect on the past and to work toward the future, but also to celebrate the moment.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Nita_Aviance\"><\/span>4. That is the one. She brings all the girls to the floor. She gives you all the feelings. She\u2019s just about owning it, right? We\u2019re all familiar with the bitch tracks, but there\u2019s something so powerfully aggressive about the rhythm to this. When the world is so crazy outside, we still have this really special bond as queer people. It\u2019s just so beautiful, so much love. It\u2019s togetherness, honey!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Alison_Limerick_%E2%80%9CWhere_Love_Lives%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Alison Limerick, \u201cWhere Love Lives\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For me, \u201cwhere love lives\u201d is the dance floor with our queer community. When we are in so much pain, this is the place that we go to find our like-minded people and celebrate ourselves, the power that we have in our community.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sylvester_%E2%80%9COver_and_Over%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Sylvester, \u201cOver and Over\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These queer people in the past really have paved the way for us to be where we are today. Sylvester was such an out and proud figure for the queer community from very early on, never hiding. And visibility is so key. It\u2019s so important to be out and proud.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Bill_Coleman\"><\/span>5. That song represents an iconic artist who has always been a supporter of LGBTQ lives. She represents a freedom and a power \u2014 she\u2019s 72, and she could still lay us all out!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Erasure_%E2%80%9CA_Little_Respect%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Erasure, \u201cA Little Respect\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This song epitomizes my coming-out college years. That\u2019s what I wanted \u2014 a little respect \u2014 as a black queer person with an alternative bent, running around in the suburbs. [Lead singer] Andy Bell was so fierce and so out at a time when it wasn\u2019t always commercially viable to be so.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Ones_%E2%80%9CFlawless%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>The Ones, \u201cFlawless\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This is bittersweet, of course. Joel Schumacher, who did the movie [\u201cFlawless\u201d] that this song was written for, just passed. And we lost Nashom [Wooden, of the Ones] this year to COVID. The Ones represented the downtown, East Village club scene, and this song became iconic .\u2009.\u2009. Anybody can be flawless. It\u2019s about an attitude \u2014 bringing it and working it.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Carly_Rae_Jepsen_%E2%80%9CRun_Away_With_Me%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Carly Rae Jepsen, \u201cRun Away With Me\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>That totally is an anthem. 100 percent. It always makes the room go off whenever I play it. Carly Rae really speaks to the younger queer crowd that I DJ for regularly. They love her. They\u2019re, like, disciples. And it makes me happy that they live for her.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Eddie_Martinez\"><\/span>6.
